Hi everyone,

I've got a bit of a dilemma so any help would be much appreciated...

After months of research (and years of saving!) below is the best diamond that I've found within my price range:

H, SI1, 1.002ct, Signature diamond
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamonds/diamond-details/1.002-h-si1-round-diamond-ags-104064813009

Although the Brian Gavin diamonds look amazing I'm still not quite convinced on the settings. The tapered six prong Tiffany setting (http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/tapered-tiffany-style-half-round-18k-white-gold-5540w18) is the front-runner as my girlfriend is slight in build and I think the six prongs and simplicity of this setting will really showcase the diamond. The only thing niggling me is that some people have found the setting to be a bit bland bland and ideally I would like something a little bit more unique. In some images online it looks great and then others not so good! Although generally I don't like 4 prong settings as much this one that I found in my local, well-renowned jewellers stands out as being my overall favourite from my search (http://www.pragnell.co.uk/products/engagement-rings/round-brilliant-cut/solitaire-four-claw/twist-solitaire.aspx).

So below are my options with the pros and cons:

1. Get Brian Gavin diamond & setting
Know that I'm getting one of the best diamonds around and hope my doubts about the setting are just pre-purchase nerves! The only other down side is that given I'm from the UK if any slight ring size changes are needed to be made this option would be more difficult although not impossible. The total cost including tax, import duty etc. is £6,300.

2. Get local jeweller diamond & setting
The diamond is still a very good GIA certified stone (http://www.pragnell.co.uk/media/899459/01-01-629.jpg) but not as strong on paper as the one from BGD. Whilst slightly better in colour as it's a G, the cut grade and symmetry are both 'very good' as opposed to being ideal/excellent. This option would be the most practical but I can't help thinking the best diamond possible needs to be the priority. Total cost £6,750.

3. Get Brian Gavin diamond & local jeweller setting
This would be the best of both worlds and the local jeweller would be fully insured to set the diamond. However, most discussions on here recommend having the diamond / setting done in one place - I know this would void the warranty with BGD and exclude the potential to upgrade. The local jeweller has also said they would charge £1,650 just for the setting which seems excessive. Total cost £6,850.

It would be great to get your thoughts & views. One final option is to have BGD create a custom setting based on the one that I like but the examples that they have sent across haven't given me a huge amount of confidence that they will be able to replicate the design.

Wishing all PS members a Happy Easter!

Thanks again.

Happy Easter!

The nice thing about the BG setting is that it will go well with all sorts of bands that can spice it up a little if either of you later feel it needs it.[nice excuse for an anniversary ring!] It's a very classic setting and since you have such a pretty diamond, as you said, it will be the star.
On the other setting you posted - I just bought a by-pass setting and it's harder to find a band that goes with it because it seems to sit higher on one side of the finger. It may not matter, but it's something to consider.
I like the BG diamond & setting best out of all the options.
[I'm sure others will chime in... I don't think you can go wrong with any of your choices].

I love the specs on the BGD stone!

Thanks both - I think I'm edging towards BGD for both the diamond and setting.

Exciting times! Any other final thoughts / considerations still much appreciated!

Thanks,

Ryan
