Which of these 3 Old Mine Cushions?

Linked the L twice.

I like the J

Yeah, I'm a wee bit torn. The problem is it's a little bit oval-ish. Also, I think the J color will bother me even though most people probably won't be sensitive to it. HOWEVER here is a link to a video of the little J guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fDIjqfqHqg

Niel~ I was wondering if you've ever seen AVCs in person. After lot of searches on PS, it seems that the AVCs REALLY face up white. This makes me doubt my decision to go with the G instead of the J.

The J is bigger, but the sales lady ensured me that there would be "warmth", but not yellow. This made me nervous. I just can't imagine not seeing "yellow" in the J and thought it would bother me. I've seen IGI-graded G-H and they looked yellow-ish to me (understandably based on how IGI grades).

The setting I'm getting appraised by GOG is for the .84 G. The side frenchies will be F-G. I'm so indecisive.

To top it all off, DH doesn't understand all the hu-bub about AVC and GOG. He suggested going to Costco and getting bigger diamonds! However, I love, love what I've seen of the AVCs here and on GOG's videos. I think the cut-quality trade-off is worth going from 1 carat to .84 carat.

I have not sadly. I do have a 6mm ideal K though. I can say that I never ever look st it and think "yellow". I discribe it as a bit of a bone color. Not stark white, but not yellow, or lemony, or creamy really either. Just "bone" Haha. Honestly looking at those pics you posted I do t even know which goes with which color exactly, they all seem white enough to me, and I do think cushions already face up smaller, is go for the one that looks as big as possible.

I can't help you with a J colour but I own an L AVC. It doesn't appear tinted most of the time when set in platinum but shows some tint from the profile view. At times, it looks like antique lace face up in certain lighting, not creamy, yellow or anything that obvious.

I would go with the J...I honestly couldn't see the color diff. in the J and the G and the J is $1k less.

But if it was my ring I would go with this larger J...even though it is an I1, wish he had included it in the video:

I would not buy an I1 with black inclusions but these look white.

In high performing stones I think the clarity is not such a big issue. It obviously does not affect the performance of this 1.27c AVC...take a look at the Megascope.

Thanks Ariel144, I just can't do included below VS2. It's just a personal preference; that is why the .76 G, IF was being considered. As I'm watching more and more videos by GOG, I'm thinking I made the wrong call on choosing the G over the J. I'm in DC, so I'm thinking about taking a trip to NY this weekend.

I'd tell good old gold. I really think you wouldn't regret either, but if you were to, I think you'd regret going smaller before you'd regret going down to a j.

Niel ~ Well it's official. All my Facebook friends like the J! I was already getting a quote on the .84 carat, so I'll have to let GOG know first thing tomorrow.

Oh great! You think you'll be able to make an appointment with them to see both??

On a somewhat related note cannot wait to see this ring when its finished!

It's Here! Re: Which of these 3 Old Mine Cushions?

It's finally done! :wavey: Thank's for all the help and advice! It's so pretty. It's very clear, almost like a piece of crystal glass in indoor lighting. In halogen or sunlight it sparkles with huge flashes of pastel light! That comes from the cut of the AVC, as most of you know.

I'm glad that I went with the largest stone of all my options. Also there is only one crystal inclusion, which I can't see even with a loupe. It's, as good as FL, in my mind.

However, I went with a J color. It faces up white if you are looking straight down on it, but you can see the color at any side angle. I can best describe it as a very pale ginger ale color. I think I'm very color sensitive. I highly doubt most people would be able to tell because the cut is superb. AVCs are so, so beautiful.

I thought 3 side stones would be a cute difference from similar rings I've see on PS, but now I think I want to add more french cuts halfway down the shank. We'll see. I've gotten nothing but compliments.

Finally, it was very, very difficult to take good pictures. I am not a photo-bug. :?

Beautiful! I'm glad your happy with the choice you made, it really does seem to make a difference with the finger presence.
