Which multi-stone ring combination to choose?

Hi lovely PS folks!
I was looking through my teenie tiny stones again and am thinking about setting a couple of them into two/three stone rings, but am torn between a few combinations. I’ve narrowed the priority down to sapphires/emeralds for a blue-green combination, and would love some ideas about which to choose.
The pics are taken indoors in the evening, please bear with me. It’s been raining for days and I couldn’t wait!

1. Tiny sparkly cornflower + blueish light-green emerald sidestones
Pros: a very sparkly combo
Cons: the center sapphire is neither the same size nor obviously larger than the emeralds, although I guess I could use halo or bezel to achieve the effect

2. Larger silky cornflower + the emeralds
Pros: more pronounced center stone (still tiny but you know what I mean)
Cons: the sapphire is silky so not as sparkly as the sides

3. The sparkly sapphire + emerald
Pros: nice colors and just so happened to be of almost the same size
Cons: don’t have good vision for the actual design yet, perhaps they would look better on their own or paired with larger stones than with each other.

4. Stacker bands.

Any input is welcome!

I was just browsing reddit and just came across such a pretty three stone vintage ring that I immediately saved it and now get to show you, too, because the design fits the first combination so well:

The other thing I'm thinking, even though it's not among your listed options, is a toi et moi ring with the oval sapphire and the asscher cut similar to the one Pomelo has: https://www.pricescope.com/communit...ing-6-years-in-the-making.274650/post-5157365

The size disparity between the two stones would work as a feature rather than a flaw, and you can adjust how much open space you want to have between the two stones on the finger, they could be set a bit closer.

Not keen on #2 as the centre stone is too dark for this combination IMHO.

I like both #1 and #3.

DK :))

This is tough! I see why you're having a difficult time deciding. So, IMO, the oval sapphire needs the aid of some side stones with pizazz. I also like the size and shape better with the round emeralds. So even though I prefer the quality of the round sapphire overall, why not go with #2 and then you can also do #3... a twofer!

If I had to choose, I would opt for #3, with diamond micro-pave around each stone, in an open ring design.

DK :))

i like number one
the colours are just so pretty that way

but honestly what would i know
i have terrible taste a lot of the time :lol-2: :lol-2:

Thanks so much everyone!

I am so glad about the coincidence because the three-stone ring is definitely a look I’m going to consider! Do you know if this design (three stones on a surface?) has a name?
As for the toi et moi, I have seen the post and was head over heels for it. I think I need a bigger stone than the second sapphire to achieve a good effect, but big yes to the excuse to ogle this ring (again) :P

I love your design idea posts because I’m the same - it’s so difficult to decide! I will wait for a sunny day to think over #2 again, haven’t decided whether I like the difference in texture or not:/

Thanks DK! I can imagine this, perhaps with one higher and the other lower.

What no :lol-2: I’ve seen your stones and rings and they are beautiful! #1 is the first combo that came to mind and inspired the color combination, though then I became undecided about size etc.

Still cloudy but thought I’d take some pics in natural light

Also some other combos I tried and passed at the moment but still at the back of my mind
IMG_3965.jpeg
The opals actually look blue on black background, I will probably ask for black when setting it
IMG_3966.jpeg

And some chrysos, I considered the emerald with the asscher one on the bottom

I pick #1

I pick #1

Thanks for the input! I am balking a little from the gold price this couple of days, still planning to go for it soon though since it will be a small project.

I say toi et moi bypass ring with this pair -- they both seem so well-cut and vibrant and with similar tones and brilliance but with a nice contrast in geometry.

I typically have a hard time making the mental leap to a toi et moi but this pair seems to work and does not look like a "jewelry-box clean-out." Curious if I'm an outlier in this perspective.

I really like the first option. I like the harmony of it all.
The third is very interesting too. Very unique but they both go so well together.

I don't think you can go wrong with whatever you decide!

My thoughts exactly as I imagined this pair. I also thought about them as stackers. But at the same time, I really want to use the emerald side stone…

Thank you! Have not 100% made up my mind yet but I think I’ve found a couple inspirations that I like

A small update: I decided to go with option 1, and sent the stones off to the bench today.
I very much liked the design inspiration that @Avondale shared, so based on that I did some more search and found an antique ring that I plan to base the design on (read: copy). It will probably be done in platinum as I feel white goes better with the color of the stones, especially the emerald sides.
Thanks everyone for all the helpful insights!

I have been pondering a ring like this too! I can’t wait to see your iteration.

Hey folks, I have been informed that the ring is ready, I will probably get it next week but here’s some shots taken by the bench!
Overall I like the result very much, the only downside is that given the slight curve there’s a bit of tilt window with the side emeralds that I may have to live with…Thoughts?

Ooooooooh! :kiss2: That's sooooo prettyyyyyyy!

Don't focus on the tilt windows - you'll notice those in photos way more. In real life the ring will be moving all the time along with your hand and it will be all sparkle and colour.

Thanks for the boost of confidence! I really hope it’s not distracting in person. Now the wait…

See now that doesn't bother me in the slightest... any CS is going to show a tint window on an angle. It's not a defect with the stones, just simply a function of a broader 3 stone design. So please don't let it give you pause! That ring is magnificent!!

Thank you autumn! Feeling all excited now

Meant to say tilt window (not tint - lol), but you got my drift! It's so lovely... wear her with pride! I would!!

Lurve it.

And your hand will be titled wearing it so problem solved

I do not see any tilt window at all in the first picture, which how you will look at it on your finger (as will other people) when you feel like admiring it. And I am certified window sensitive! It's a very unique and pretty ring that looks like it will be easy to wear!

Sometimes it bugs me but I know it’s unavoidable. I will just have to turn my hand lots ;)
