Hi Guys,

I hope you''re all well.

I posted a few weeks ago about wanting to buy a Tiffany Legacy ring for my girlfriend. Well, I''ve been in store and looked at all the rings they had in stock - they had two rings a 0.38 and 0.45 that I really liked. The sales lady showed me how the engagement rings looks alongside the legacy wedding ring and, when they are sitting together, I think that anything over a 0.5 carat would be too large for my girlfriend. If you remember, she doesn''t wear any jewellery on her hands and I don''t want for her to feel uncomfortable.

The sales consultant has been able to find the following rings for me and I really hoped to get your thoughts:

0.37, G, VVS1, $7,405

0.38, F, VS1, $7,405

0.46, H, VVS1 $9,025 (this one is way out of my budget, but I''d be interested to know whether a diamond with these specs would even be good?)

0.36, H, VS1, $6,405

So, those are my options. Do any one of these seem better than the others?

Again, any tips or advice would be very welcome - this diamond buying business still hasn''t become any less confusing to me!!

In order to determine the cut or other qualities of those diamonds, I think we need the information crown angles, pavilion angle, table, depth, etc. From looking at the dollar figures for each stone, I take it that you pay for the setting and the diamonds. If tiffany is your gf''s main requirement, then it will be fine. Otherwise, you can get a G vvs1 for around 7200 by using the search function on top, and get an inspired version from one of our qualify vendor in here.

Ditto, need wayy more info.

Table, depth, crown, pavilion are a good start.

ETA: in those sizes (assuming RBs) H will look plenty white, and it's easy to find an eyeclean SI1/2, if you want to save a little or try to go bigger.

Less than 0.5ct diamond for over $6000?

Well, we all know Tiff is expensive but man... anywho, If she must have a Tiff. then I would choose the .38 F or the .36 H, have you seen any of these rings in person?

Seeing the ring and person and choosing the one I liked would be important, being a fancy cut there is not way to tell if you hve a good cut unless you have a ASET. You can buy one and take it with you when you look at these rings....

Aren''t these cushions if they are in the legacy setting?

Tiffany uses their patented cushion-cut so the angles aren't necessary to ask for since they don't mean anything. You will need to use your own eyes to decide which one is the best.

If it was me, I'd take the H VS1 as its the least expensive and will still be a beautiful ring.

I am guessing your gf is stuck on Tiffany but here is a Tiffany-inspired setting that looks interesting. It would look good with a cushion. You might be able to get the style you like and bring the cost closer to your original budget. $7k is an awful lot for a less than 1/2 carat.

Are you open to purchasing pre-owned? Signed pieces has a Tiff E-ring Right now. Round Brillant Center stone is .32 cts F VS1, side stones F-G color VS clarity.

It really looks like a GREAT value for a Tiff Ring. Here is the link:

Sorry...I should have read that you wanted the Legacy...Oops!

Best of Luck!

Ditto. And ditto that 7K is a LOT for less than half a carat. Like-- a lot, a lot.

ETA: If she wants Tiffany, then by all means, get her what she wants if you can. But, in my experience, most people that are brand concious can also be size concious so I'd consider the carat size carefully.

If she's not set on Tiffany, but loves antique styles... how about a 'real' Legacy piece? http://www.langantiques.com/category/10/4/item/10-1-2583/ Is stunning, a great size, with lovely details. And is a true heirloom piece.

Yes, I recently bought a mounted, 1.02ct, F, SI1, super-ideal, for about the same as the cheapest of those - the 0.36 H VS1.

Most of the Pricescope members are "size junkies" for a good reason; bigger stones look much more impressive - not only their "face-up" size, but the flashes they emit are bigger, so are visible at longer distances than an equivalent cut smaller stone.

Oooof. Seriously overpriced (IMO, of course).

Does she need the little blue box? If not, we can help you save a LOT of money.

Here's an example of something you could do. Just an idea.

.50 ct F, VS2 GIA EX/EX Square Cushion. Ask for photos, idealscope, ASET.

In this setting (platinum):

Vatche Grace (Be sure to check out all of the photos. It's pretty close to the Tiffany Legacy setting.)

Now, the diamond in the Vatche Grace is prong-set, but I know Vatche will make certain adjustments (or they used to). See if they can bezel set that cushion (if it proves to be a nice one) into the Grace.

Total = $3599

Total savings (comparing it to the .46 ct Legacy) = $5426
