Hi everyone,

I am looking for a 0.6ct diamond for engagement ring and there are the 4 diamonds from WF that I am considering.

1. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2953779.htm
$2,693; 0.623 ct G VS2
HCA 1.7
Light Return: Very Good
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread: Very Good
**** The cheapest one, but I don't like the black crystal on the table as shown in the image (7~8 o'clock to the center). Besides the light return got a VG.

2. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2960085.htm
$3,147; 0.643 ct F VS2
HCA 1.4
Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Very Good
Spread: Very Good
**** My first choice as the most balanced one I think. Although the HCA <2, will the VG in scintillation a problem?

3. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2949586.htm
$3,475; 0.677 ct G VS1
HCA 0.8
Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread: Very Good
**** My second choice. Problem is the green girdle in the ASET image looks terrible.

4. http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2914760.htm
$3,652; 0.617 ct D VS1
HCA 0.9
Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Excellent
Spread: Very Good
**** Nothing bad, just the D color seems like a waste of money to me.

Please give me some advice on these diamond. Which one would you pick?
I have no idea which one should I get as they are very similar. Thanks.

BTW, I just create this post the second time because there is some problem with the Pricescope forum. ;(

I like the 0.677ct G-VS1 ACA the best, and then the D-VS1 - but since they are all ACAs really you could pick any of them as they'd be gorgeous diamonds with outstanding performance - though I agree with you that I wouldn't pick the 0.623ct G-VS2 ACA due to the dark crystal in the center (even if WF says it is eyeclean, I'd always rather not select a stone with inclusions in the center if I can help it).

The HCA tool doesn't apply to AGS O ideal-cut stones - it is meant as an elimination tool when you are unable to view the stone in person and the vendor does not provide photos and light performance images. Here, you have the macro photo, IdealScope, Aset, Hearts, and Sarin reports for each of them - all of those trump the HCA.

Absolutely the .67 G VS1. Every bit of diameter counts at this price point. And I agree with everything else Mary said.

Definitely the .67! With stones that are all cut the same and with all of them being excellent cuts, always go for the bigger....at least IMO.

Thanks for all the reply. That means I should not worry about the green area near the girdle for the .67 G VS1? I thought that's a sign of not a very good cut as it reflect les light in that area. Would there be any visual difference?

No and NO! Really, we wouldn't recommend the stone if we thought it was a dud. As DS said, every little mm counts with this size stone......

The girdle's not gonna be a problem at all. I would go for the 0.677 above -- when you're looking at diamonds in this size range, I would try to get every last tenth of a mm I could!! :))

Hello.

I was asked to address the green area at 1:00 in the girdle of the 0.677 (diamond #3).

Here is a technical explanation: Green in the ASET shows light being drawn from lower angles. In this case, two of the upper girdle facets appear slightly “dug” in brillianteering. Since the diamond received a polish grade of Ideal from AGSL (an extremely strict standard) I deduce that difficult graining was not an issue. It’s possible a crown inclusion was chased-out to bring the diamond to VS1 clarity, or the rough shape itself could have dictated this need. It still received Ideal light performance, so the digging did not result in a significant reduction. It remains a high performing AGS0 diamond. I hope this is helpful.

Cheers,
