Where would I buy an OEC or OMC around .40ct?

I have been asked to find a diamond for my son to propose to his girlfriend

Thanks! I will go and check them all out :))

How cute! :))

Here you go, Maisie (third one down. The fourth one down is an EC which looks not too shabby either):

I would email JbEG. I love their stuff!

The one on the ebay listing looks damaged, chipped and nothing I would spend money on.

I haven't met an unrestored antique diamond yet without some damage. Remember they all have bruted girdles and usually chips, I had mine repolished and the girdle faceted. I think the ebay one is in better shape that the JBEG one, the pic is far away but visibly out of round.

I have / had several older diamonds which were left to me by my mom. One did have a chip on it whereas the rest seem to be ok. Having said that, both of the above diamonds do look a bit chipped to me. Maisie, you may or may not wish to go through the trouble and expense of having it repolished. I'd ask the vendor, whoever that is, to tell you honestly about the condition of the stone. In any case, you could also ask Erica or Grace to source one for you. These ladies are really lovely, though I've not had the pleasure to do biz with them, only email exchanges.

I've also looked through Old World Diamonds site and found a few which may be suitable. I've kept the clarity at VS (as I *think* any chipping - in addition to the other "regular" types of inclusions - would contribute to lowering the clarity grading) and the pics show the diamonds as being more round (rather than slightly off-round), so hopefully there won't be an issue with any chipping. Again, contact them and ask abt the condition of whichever stone(s) you may be interested in pursuing.

I wonder if it might be better to aim for one of GOG's vintage cuts. That way I won't have to worry about chips etc. I know that my son's g/f is drawn to the antique style settings so maybe she won't mind of the stone isn't old....

Thanks again for the help!

Well, in that case, how about this? It's a smidgen smaller but an absolute beauty  :

(Btw, I wouldn't worry so much about the chips. I'd trust Erica/ Grace or the people at Old World to steer you in the right direction. Not that I've had the pleasure of purchasing anything from them, but they seem to have great reputation here. Just my 0.02).

Masie, did you say what your son's budget is?

I have one and many other ps members too! I agree with sarah.
