I have a 9x11 pink lab sapphire that I would like to remove from this ring and get recut, and just wondering if anyone recommends a cutter and if they have examples of their work? I tend to like "chunkier" facets...what are your guys favorite facet patterns for a rectangular sapphire? I live in Canada, so that might make a difference on who I go with...

Hi, It''s very pretty the way it is. But we aren''t supposed to talk about lab stones in this forum. There is a forum on PS where we can discuss that type of thing though.

If you look at this post: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/sapphire.104794/], then got moved to colored stones forum, and then basically got 'shot down' because it was talking about a lab-grown gemstone. So, my question is, if the place you posted, inner, isn't really the place to discuss it, where is the place? OR, is it like pearls? Off-limits?

I have no idea about where this post would be appropriate but I think the cut on the sapphire looks fine. Why would you want it recut?

I don''t think Jeff White does recuts anymore. I''m not sure if Gene Flanigan or Dan Stair do them but I wouldn''t think it would hurt to ask if they do or have them recommend someone if they don''t. I don''t think any of us can help you with shapes; you''d really have to show it to a lapidary and have them decided what can and can''t be done with it.

This is the guy you need, he''s in Vancouver. Not sure if it would be worth it though unless it has sentimental value to you.

It would be cheaper to just have the cutter use a piece of lab material. Lab created sapphire sells for about $0.20 per ct or less. So you have maybe $1 worth of "rough" there. It''s not worth paying someone to remove the stone and then the postage to mail it.

The price of lab cut stones, is all in the cutting, except for lab grown emerald and alex.

If you look on Dan Stair's website, he does talk about recuts, and he will do them from what I believe.

However I completely agree with Gene, and it's not worth recutting a lab sapphire. I would just get someone to cut a whole new piece of synthetic "rough."
