Hello Everyone-
I hope someone here can help me. I have a budget of $ 15 K to spend on Jewellery (present from my husband :-) but I am not sure where to start. I know there is a Diamond center (47t street) in NYC but is it safe to buy jewelery there? I don''t want to be ripped off since i don''t know a lot about jewelery.
We moved to NYC from San Francisco where they had a Jewelery and Gift Center in SOMA in Mission and i remember there was one strore in the center, reputable and a lot of our friends used to buy jewelery from there.. i forgot the name of the store.. maybe someone can help me?? Anyway, I am looking for something similar here in NYC. I don''t know yet what I am going to buy yet.. necklace, bracelet, ring or maybe all three pieces withing my budget, but i am desperately looking for a store where i can go inside, get a great service and don''t overpay if you know what I mean.
I really like Wempe store, I think Tiffany is overpriced but what are my other options??
Thanks so much for answers.

Hi Butterfly,
There''s a ton of stores in ny but if you''re just going to look and get an idea, I''d recommend Michael C. Fina on
5th and 45th street. They carry various designers and I believe the Hearts on Fire stones.
There''s also a personal favorite of mine, Stuart Moore in Soho on Prince st. corner of Wooster. Very modern designs though so not for everyone.
As I''m sure you probably already know all the high end shops on 5th.
Do yourself a favor though and don''t buy any diamonds without first reading the tutorial on this site and if you have any questions, you
can always post again.
Have fun

its not exactly in NYC, but close enough.. Good Old Gold. highly recommended on this site, i purchased from them and they were extremely helpful and 0% pushy, very competitive prices. they both sell online and have a B&M store.

check out their website, here.

Any storefront in NYC will have a decent markup (Fina, Fortunoff, DeBeers, Cartier, Tiffany <-they're all on a stretch of 5th Ave btwn 57th & 45th).

If you find something you like tho, you cld always have an internet jeweler customize it for you (prob get better quality for less that way)? the Natural Sapphire Company, Engagement Rings Direct & Excel are all in NYC.

If you don't mind taking a drive, Good Old Gold is on Long Island.

Thanks for your replies.. i will check the websites out.. I heard about that store in Long Island.. since I am not buying diamonds (engagement ring) do they have a good selection of gold, white gold, maybe saphires?? Thanks again!

Engagement Rings Direct''s website is www.engagementringsdirect.com. (Zenit accidentally linked the same place twice.)

I would check out Leon Mege as well. He does incredible pave work and his rings are works of art. Website for him is artofplatinum.com.

Also antiqueengagementrings.com-they have great antique/estate jewelry and repropductions.

And I know you said you''re not getting diamonds, but with a budget like that, you should!

Maybe a nice cushion cut right hand ring with a pave halo and band? Just throwing that out there!

Although I bought my last ring from a Pricescope vendor, I have made purchases from Norman Landsberg in the Diamond District and done well there.
He has a booth in one of the Exchanges and the service is good. You might try him. I think his prices are very fair and he has a good selection. This is a family run business and they have been there for many years.

I have purchased from Michael Jay Fifth Avenue www.michaeljay.com He has an online inventory as well as being a B&M, he was fantastic to deal with and I highly recommend him.
