can a nice garnet be? Does anyone know of places you''ve used to get a nice garnet. I''m looking for a friend''s birthday present. I''m thinking of getting her a garnet necklace. Budget is around $100. I don''t know if this budget is unreasonable, but then again I don''t see the high demand for garnets either...

I looked at that one! Thanks! I also saw the heart one as well. I was a bit worried since someone commented that it looked brown. She doesn't wear earrings so I have to make all the money work on the gift. I'm also exploring other gemstones as well.

eta: glad to hear your bn experience was good...I was a bit worried about using them because I heard mixed things.

like diamonds, there is something for every budget. there is a high demand for certain garnets in certain colors. tsavorite and spessartite come to mind. i always thought garnet was nothing more than a dark red piece of rock. i am now a garnet junkie. you will get a better stone if you buy direct from a cutter. or perhaps a pendant and let her pick her own chain to wear it with.

the angara amethyst has a bit more life to it. the other looks lifeless. good amethyst has personality, some zing if you will.
