The Windstar is an extremely popular North American mini-van. Six weeks after taking possession of the vehicle, the air conditioning unit just died - a ton of steam/smoke came up from under the hood - and the engine had to be removed in order to replace it, as I recall. For some reason I ended up driving a VW Jetta for the entire SEVEN WEEKS Ford took to repair my car. I haven't forgotten how much I loved the Jetta and we're planning on buying one next summer.

The Taurus had a faulty fuel gauge. I don't care who built it, it said FORD and they earned further enmity from yours truly. The gauge showed the car as having 1/4 tank full of gas when it was, in fact, empty.

That took FOUR WEEKS to fix.




The only Firestone that I know of who appeared on 'reality programming' was Andrew Firestone, scion of the Firestone clan. However, they sold their stake in tires years ago and moved on to producing wine in California, so it's really not his fault.

Unfotunately wherever there is mechanics involved, there is a probability of a malfunction. I'm sad that you experienced the problems with these outsourced components on your Ford vehicle.

I hope you enjoy your chrysler, until one day the dashboard cracks, the tyre pops, the windscreen wipers stop working, it could be anything, then you will say DAMN CHRYSLER! They are all pieces of sh|t! You will take it to some mechanic who will charge you a fortune to remove the engine to replace a windscreen wiper component. It will then take him 6 weeks to repair it

Always seek the advice from someone in the know, before you fork out a whole heap of money to have your engine removed, to replace the air conditioning unit. As far as I know, engines do not need to be removed in order to replace an air conditioner unit. I'm not familiar with the Windstar though. Be careful with mechanic's they can be as shifty as a diamond merhcant!

I came back and this turned into a car discussion. Anyways I didnot mean to say that Fords are piece of craps...As I said I love cars and I have my preferences...with that said I did not implied that all fords are shiets and that the owners made the wrong decisions on buying them. I even though I work with and love german cars doesnt mean I dont appreciate american cars.
I myself have a ford, I own a lincoln navigator, which is an expedition with lipstick and I also have a 68 mustang fastback, and this is apart from my german cars.
Like I was saying cars, diamonds or styles are for everyone, in which ever way we might like it, and we should respect it. We can argue forever that fords (where ever they are made) are a piece of shiet, or that Im a dumbass for paying 100k for a german car.
canadiangrrl, I agree with toska (atleast in one thing...jk) you should double think next time where you take your car to. I never heard anyone taking the engine out to replace a air conditioning device...Wow! You should seriously think about reporting that to the business burreau or get an attorney...that doesnt smell good to me.
Anyways Toska, where did you read that the cobra produces 160hp? Goodlord! where have you been? I dont know about cobras in australia, never seen one, I seen many falcons, atleast 10 of them in every block of surfers paradise, But cobras produce 385 bhp / 287.2 kW @ 6250 rpm, that is also without throwing a supercharger or turbo, now if you are loooking at putting a supercharger into a cobra at 8 psi of boost you are looking atleast at an extra 200 hp...anyways Im not into cobras or falcons, but to me they are the same shiet...now if you look at my bmw m5, I got it with 400 hp, with new throttle body, headers, ecu, new cat piping and headers, Im pushing close to 480 to the wheels, and not bullshiet crank horsepower, now thats a car!
I already beat my friend modena and my other friends ferrari 550.

Lets just leave it at that...I dont want to all the ladies to get bored with all this car conversation...
also just in case, besser engineering, is not just an engineering company, we produce mostly performance suspension for german automobiles, Mostly BMW, Mercedes and Mini cooper.

Peeps - the Windstar with the busted A/C system was taken to a Ford dealership, not some random shop.

As I said in a previous post, the vehicle was only six weeks old - brand spankin' new. It was therefore under warranty and neither I nor the company I worked for who held the lease had to pay one red cent.

The engine had to be removed in order to get at the A/C system, as the A/C had to be completely dismantled and then replaced. Apparently this is impossible to do with this model unless the engine is removed. Like I said, this was done at the Ford dealership which had originally procured this vehicle - so I trust they had some idea as to what they were doing.

Cali6869, sounds like you have a nice vehicle there. By the way I was talking about the standard cobra not the SVT cobra which is 290 kw.
How does your transmission handle all of that extra power?

Candiangrrl, Well if it was under warranty I guess is ok, well not really, you would hope the car would off last longer without any problems. But 6 weeks seems a little too long, maybe they weere backed up.
Toska, yea I have a six gear manual tranny, and it handles good. But I also have a 3 series witch it comes with the step tronic trany. Right now Im at 220 hp, I will supercharge it next month with a 6psi of boost. That will bring me up to 300hp. Now I dont think the tranny will be able to hold up more than that, If we decide to beef up the car more, will have to do a tranny swap, for either a five gear or six gear manual. This car is more of a show car, but will see what happens after the sc.
Toska, I guess if we want to talk about cars we should just private message, or go to a car forum....HAHAHAHA Im there often!

Let me beat this dead horse one more time. My Taurus wagons have never left me stranded. That said, my volvo, my dad's mercedes, my Plymoth Voyager (I think a Chrysler product), Chevy Blazer & my nissan 240Z all have died on the side of the road so to speak.

All those cars are in the past except for my Van which we keep around for hauling. It is the reliabilty & space capacity that I keep buying the Taurus. I really hate cars. They do not think to kindly to me either. But, then I wash my automobile maybe once a year at best. I even hate to drive. Hubby believes that I will have a driver one day. He plays the role most of the time now.

I don't really care where they are made. Parts seem to be more available & less expensive on domestic cars.

I have never heard this about Fords. Hubby's company has a fleet of them. No problems. I do not want people to be scared off by all this repair talk.

Fire&Ice, Mini Cooper are awesome cars, They run at about 25 for the top of the line, they are called Mini Cooper S, Those are the ones you saw at the movie. Now remember that the ones in the movie were fixed up, so they looked a little better than the ones you might get at your local dealership. Most job in those cars were suspension, thats why they were so low, and some engine (not sure of this).
The minis have awesome handling and suspension, they are great cars! they are not too fast though, but if power is not one of your priorities then thats more than enough power.

We're considering leasing a Mini next fall at some point for a fun new car (both of us have older cars..enabling things like diamond ring and house purchases!!), but Greg is already making noises about KEEPING IT. I may have to put a leash on this man!

We don't have enough room for more cars!

The reason you are hearing those silly comments from "non Ford owners" is because they are jealous as hell that they don't own one.

One of my Fords is a 1979 4.1 litre TE Cortina, that thing has never had a thing repaired on it. The only thing I have had to ever do was change the oil. You want reliablilty everyone knows thats a Ford. In the words of cali6869, all haters eat a d|ck up

No my fiance is talking about keeping the new leased Mini that we don't even have yet. Idea behind leasing it is that it would keep him from wanting to KEEP it. He gets attached to all his cars and takes them apart, puts them back together, plays with them. So I figured if we LEASE one, then it has to go away at some point. But he wants to keep it now. We don't even have it yet!

Mara, tell him to buy it...from what I have learned in the past, is that man will fall in love with a car regardless weather is leased or buy...I say buy it and take advantage of the good interest rates out there... then later make up the decision if you want to buy it.

Ok, sorry, I don't mean to be an American Car basher, but my father has owned nothing but Lincolns and Fords since I was a baby...He refuses to buy anything foreign. Each of these cars has had an "issue"...A/C shot, heating not working, power windows, power doorlocks malfunctioning...door handles breaks off...engine sounds, chassis problems. The cars are like made out of paper. Repaired by FORD!




My question is if Ford indeed had the capability and enginuity to MAKE a good car, why don't they do so in the US? Granted, they have gotten better, but I would NEVER NEVER NEVER pick a Ford over a good German car, even a damned beatle (which I abhor!) it comes down to a better build of car, tighter steering, and better quality. No more car talks. Everyone has preferences, and we don't all agree, and we just never will. To each his own!




Diamond encrusted dog tags to me seem a waste of diamonds, but then again, I can't afford them, so I would drool if i saw them on ANYONE. I respect your will to put diamonds on something normally not diamond encrusted. Sure, why not?! I saw a lady on the street today purchasing a custom-made diamond encrusted Hello Kitty bracelet. Sure, why not? Diamonds are diamonds in whatever form they are displayed and are no different than our precious blings on our fingers. They are sparkly and lovely and I will still LOVE to see pictures of your diamond dog tags! Let's talk DIAMONDS!!!
