Hi,
Is there a place that sells adjustable settings?

My ring size varies so much that the only ring I have that can reliably wear is an adjustable one with a very long chunky stone that looks like a metalworker made it for that stone. I have large joints and then thin fingers so it is a fine line between getting it over the joint without spinning around the finger and so tight that it is cutting off circulation. I use tape or band aids a lot on my rings.

Another question:

Is there a place that sells marcasite ring settings? I asked about marcasite rings in another thread but not many responses.

I have the same problem - finger is a 4 and knuckle is a 5.75. I have 2 rings with adjustable shanks. I think I have attached a [cell phone camera] pic.

The one on the left is a Fingermate. It is an old setting and the shank likes to open when I pick something heavy up with that hand. It is kind of a pain. I need to have the stone reset into a RHR, in any case.

The one on the right is a PFF Creates. It is only a few years old and so far, so good. I much prefer it to the Fingermate and will use it again. BTW, I did lots of research on adjustable shanks before I went with the PFF.

I think you would get your jeweler to order the shank you like from its manufacturer and then use it in making your ring. As far as modifying an existing ring, I am not sure whether the shank manufacturers would do the work or whether your jeweler would. I guess you could go either way.

In any case, if you have your jeweler talk to she shank manufacturer I'm sure they will figure it out for you.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! These are very useful. I didn''t even know these exist. It''s a bit more than I want to spend though.

I was thinking along these lines (silver and cheaper) but I want one where you could put a gemstone:

several types here:
http://www.morningjewelry.com/silver-adjustable-rings/http://seaside.stores.yahoo.net/dolphinring.html

these settings are for cabochons only:

this is sort of what I am talking about only I want to put a real gem and real silver (fake stone in adjustable prong setting):

maybe there is a marcasite wrap ring out there with a gem that I could replace with one I like more:

Oh my goodness---I had even been scouring the stuller catalog for ring settings and didn''t know they had these! Thanks so much for pointing them out.

Where do I get tops for these? Do you go to this page and find either a bezel or prong setting top?:

Here is an adjustable ring with a 5mm round cabochon in a bezel. Could I have it removed and put a faceted 5mm round gem in?:

Here are some more that might work (not for 5mm though). Could I take the opal out or shell out of one of these bezel rings and put a gemstone in?
