I think it has good bones. the only bad things are the floor and the tile on the counter top.

I think if you''re planning to do anything major in the near future, only do minor things now. I would imagine that the bathtub, cabinet, and sink will all be replaced? If you replace the floor and take those out later, you might have to redo it.

I think the two easiest fixes would be lighting and paint. I really like the vintage quality of the bathroom and I love the tiled in shower. It''s really unique. It''s sort of the beginning of an Art Deco styled bathroom.

Definitely stick with the white and black color palette and maybe add a hint of blue. Subway tile and hexagonal tiles fit into Art Deco design.

The sink and toilet are pretty new, and will be staying for the time being. The tub is original, but is nice and deep and has cool deco styling, so it''s staying too. I agree on the tile on the countertop. We''re putting soapstone counters in the kitchen, and I''m considering putting a slab on the bathroom cabinet too. Not sure though.

Hi Selkie!

I have no advice for you since I am SO not talented when it comes to interior design. I just wanted to pop in and say that I love your new digs. It looks like a great bungalow. I also really love the fixture above the mirror in the bathroom. It''s so pretty!

Just wanted to say that the outside of your house looks AWESOME!!!!!!! I love it!

Selkie--I love your house! I really dig that black shower tile.(the archway) Can't wait to see what you do--what an awesome house!

Selkie that bungalow is super cute!!! I adore California bungalows architecture...those rounded door jambs, do you have those?

Naked bathrooms never look fun, I agree with the others that the rugs will add a fair amount of distraction as well. I like the idea of a gray or even something with a bit of silver in it for the walls, they have metallic paints now. Light fixtures make a HUGE difference in rooms. My parents just finished the house they were building and in the dining room they painted it this shade of gray that I thought was hideous. I was thinking who paints a dining room gray? It ruined the room. But then they found this amazing light fixture from Zgallerie that had hanging shell pieces in cream and browns and grays, in layers all around it, and it was a huge hanging chandelier. It transformed the room, literally. That strange gray room with that piece in it became amazing. It really struck home how simple changes and some paint can make huge differences.

Thanks, Zoe, Jo, Mara, and Coati!

Mara, we've got arches everywhere, as well as coved and tray ceilings in almost every room. I think I will start a new thread with pics of the rest of the place.

I'm really liking the idea of silvery-gray walls, now. I'm going to think about it a bit more first though. I agree on the importance of good accessories.

I actually think your bathroom is rather cute, however, I understand the pain of an unfortunate inheritance of salmon/mauve colored tiles. My bathroom came with 90s white and salmon/mauve toned tile (the horror, I tell you) and I had to work around it. The color scheme that evolved turned a hideous pink toned tile into a lovely, unexpected accent-- I did brown, black, white/cream, and pink. The walls are a Restoration Hardware brown (Flax) and I keep a Restoration Hardware hotel shower curtain (blush on white) closed at all times to hide some of the lovely tiles.

I would share a picture, but I can't figure out how.

So did you leave the tile? I''d love to see a pic. Here''s a link to a
\"how to\" on inserting pictures in a post.
