hmmm, kudos to hubby! I think that''s pretty good for this camera. Here is another test of my eternity ring

Hmmm, interesting.
Well, I am interested in upgrading my photography skills since I''ll have a new bauble soon.
I''d still like crisper shots, so maybe we can squeeze in some camera shopping this weekend.....
any & all feedback welcome!!

Did you see my note to you which is between your pictures?

I know there are a lot of past camera threads, but I think I'll start us a camera thread anyway in shopping.

ETA: Maybe not. There is a current thread on Canon cameras already in Shopping. I think I'll read up on some other camera review sites and I'll come back and tell you what I see.

Oh, I just went over to shopping and saw all the info there.
Well, I promised I wouldn't "fritter the day away", but, real quick- here's what he did:
Get a distance of about 3-4 feet.
Set the ring on a white background
Zoom as far as it will go- first it will "optically zoom", then it will "digitally zoom".
Press down half way on the shoot button, keeping an eye on the LCD display.
When it gets as crisp as it can, push down the rest of the way.

ETA: Oh using a tripod would be a big help, too. Gotta go find that thing
Keep the shakiness to a minimum

Then, from Paint or Photoshop Editor, crop, resize, whatever to get the pic small & under 100k.

OK .... more to come!

Yes, I just found the Canon thread and it has good info.

Thanks for the instructions. I know nothing about the zoom. I need to take a class for whatever camera I buy! I just hate reading manuals! But I got a new cell phone yesterday, so I''ve gotta read that manual, like it or not!

I was already planning a shopping trip this evening when another pricescoper with size insecurities (or maybe just diamond modesty
2.gif
) sorta challenged me to take the leap. I''m not saying who it is or anything, but all I can say is I''m not getting a diamond as big as hers! I draw the line at 1.59 !!!
16.gif

I have been thinking about this & shopping a bit and this evening I found something that looks very promising.
It is an E with medium flouresence, 1.59 ct, 7.66 mm diameter, SI2 with twining wips that disappear into the stone.
It didn''t just sing to me, it hollered, ''hey, take me home with you!!''
Here is what the HCA looks like-
bahaha... I got here thinking I wanted a .75-.8 oval then realized I could buy over a carat here for the same price... now I really want two carats bahahaha! I''ll probably be somewhere between 1-2 though in the end.

It is bad, but it is like having a whole other life in here! It''s hard going back to the real world sometimes!

By the way, my new diamond is 7.6mm, so the one you''re looking at is a tiny bit bigger in diameter! Haha!
It is!!! I''ve been looking at my friends'' rings more closely and thinking, wow, if I get what I want, I''m gonna have to hide it in their presence or look like I just like to blow endless money LOL

Wot''s diamond modesty????
6.gif
Never heard of it! So we have another diamondseeker do we??

Congrats Dbgaap!

Diamond modesty! I made it up!!

When I was growing up, it was ingrained in me that ''conspicuous consumption'' is something only tacky insecure people are prone to.

Having the biggest and the best is just .. well.. TACKY!

Honestly, that''s a bunch of nonsense! My own mother, who drilled that into me, compliments my jewelry every time I see her and she has repeatedly told me how happy she is that I am happily married, daughter growing up well and happy with my career.

Maybe back then she felt tired of frugality and it was a little bit of sour grapes or something.
whatever!!!
this thread is cracking me up and ringing a bit close to home LOL But fogettit... *I* Have to like it - who cares what anyone else thinks! They''re just jealous anyway LOL!

db, I think I can relate to the tacky thing. But I just think diamond size has grown over the years! I think now that 1.6 is okay for us (after a littl brainwashing
2.gif
), but I doubt either of us would choose a poorly cut 3 ct.with black spots in it at the same price in order to have a big honker. That would be tacky to me. And the 1.6 is really my absolute comfort limit for where I live.
There are plenty of people here with huge stones so I won''t stick out in general public, but my circle is used to me having *nothing* and I''m pretty casual and unpretentious so I think they''re gonna be shocked. I *refuse* to discuss my diamond purchase with anyone. I tried talking to one of my friends but I ended it after 5 minutes. She''s bragged for years about her 1 carat marquise and how "flawless" it is but I''ve always thought her ring was ugly and the cut was horrible (very very narrow - no flash or sparkle) and when I tried talking to her about cut she told me cut was just a fad and she was told clarity was most important and color. So fine, wear your VVS1 D that does nothing. I''m sure she''ll tell everyone how ugly my weird cushion is... but that''s on her LOL Scary thing is I''m not spending much more than she did :x

Here are a few pics taken with the Canon A510.
I must say diamondseeker, you got some very good shots with your camera, better than I have managed.
Also I think your diamond has more contrast than mine, too.
Still haven''t gone camera shopping, so many things to do !!!!!

Thank you C!
I have followed your thread on fancies and I even looked at some cushions, radiants and a princess last week out of curiosity.
I think I could LOVE a fancy, esp with high color and some flour.

For those interested, here are the specs on this baby:
from the GIA cert:
Round Brilliant
7.62 - 7.69 x 4.51
1.59 ct
E
Clarity SI2 (twining wisps that I cannot see without magnification)
Cut grade Very Good
Polish Excellent
Symmetry VG
Fluorescence Med Blue

From the Sarin:
Diameter (7.66) 7.73 - 7.69
Crown angle 33.7
crown height 13.3 %
Pavil angle 40.9
Pavil depth 43.0
culet 0.9
table size 59.8 %
total depth 58.9 %
girdle % 0.7 - 1.2

Oooh! So pretty!!!
30.gif
Very bright and white! Gosh, this size does not seem too big anymore! Yay! It looks just right for us! Haha!

My close-ups were done by cropping the picture and then enlarging just the diamond. It was a miracle I figured out how to do it, but I just used a standard microsoft program that came on the computer. Your pictures are great!

I spent a couple of hours today researching Canon cameras, and I''ll tell you, it is not nearly as fun as looking at diamonds!!!

In the A series (as in the A510), there is now an A530 which at least has 5 megapixels (which should be okay considering the A510 only has 3.2 and takes good pictures), and this is the low end of the price scale at $159. at Amazon. There are a couple of more expensive A''s, but it doesn''t make much sense to me to go much higher than that on their inexpensive camera line. Then, in the compact (pocketsize) category, you have the SD600, SD630, and SD700 (about $300, $350, and $439.including shipping). These all have 6 megapixels. In reading the reviews, I think I''d be fine with the SD600. I just won''t pay $500 for a camera for my purposes, and that''s almost what the SD700 would be by the time you added on a memory and and case! The last three do have the advantage of having a lithium battery like a cell phone, so you plug it in to charge the battery instead of using AA''s like the A510.

The last hour I''ve been trying to program my new cell phone which is a total major pain! I hope I love this one and can keep it for 10 years!

This stone are something I would have never even considered if I only looked at the paper.

It was when I saw it that I loved it so much.

Ack - is it OK to say that on pricescope??!!

Well thanks for sharing all that (yes, what a pain to research a plain old boring camera)
Hopefully we''ll get a little time to look tomorrow. There are SO MANY Canons! I was thinking of getting the 550 based on what other ps-ers are using.
Also, there is the SONY dsc-t9 recommended by Vadim.
And I think I will go for one with that rechargeable battery. I go through a LOT of the double A''s.

If it has a rechargable you might consider how long it will last or perhaps buying two... because you can buy double A''s anywhere, but if your recharg runs out of juice, you''re stuck.

I''m a bit late on this thread, but I think that stone size is quite nice on your hand!! Now go and get that mounted!

The 600 is newer than the 550 and it is lighter and thinner and got better reviews from what I read. They were almost the same price, so I ruled out the 550. I did read a couple of reviews that compared the Sony dsc-t9, and the Canon''s got the better review. The last I priced the Sony, it was about $350, so the Canon SD600 would be less, and the SD630 would be about the same. I pretty much would like the charger rather than dealing with batteries, too. But the lithium will run down quicker..it''ll take about 160 pictures to 300 with the A series on one charge. Just thought I''d save you a little research time!

Gorgeous stone and I think the numbers are just fine. I had a 1.48ct with similar numbers and they all worked out so well that the HCA was great too, it was close to 60/60 and it was BEAUTIFUL!! I think your stone is stunning and no one but up PS''ers are going to ask for the crown/pavilion angles and depth/height etc etc. I need some of you ladies to come to my house (or I will travel LOL) to teach my VERY VERY traditional husband to do an upgrade. I know I will wear the 1ct that he proposed with until the day I pass, with the same setting etc. etc.

I recently tried on an AJaffe set and he loved it but wouldn''t let me have it. I also begged him to upgrade my simple x-prong and nada. I''m just trying to put diamonds on my band because I HAVE to have platinum and I hate taking it in to get polished all the time..........although I wouldn''t go to WG because of it. I''m now searching for RHR east/west settings with oval or marquise (for the future, no extra cash flow now). The funny thing is that I asked for a 1ct because I didn''t want to seem greedy but he well could have afforded more. I was so STUPID ROFL. HELP ME LADIES, how do you do it??????? I need more blingage!

I know, I can start selling my spoiled 7yo dd''s toys ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
