What's your holy grail, Moby Dick, the one you're always looking for?

I want a natural brown Asscher cut diamond, 1..0 to 1.50 ct. Not too dark, prefer orangey to champagne tones. Don't care about clarity, just a nice cut. Preferably from a vendor I like.

Thank you, I almost bought that last night - he had it way underpriced on etsy. I reached out to him and he corrected the error immediately. I like that one, he's a step-cut lover and his stones are lovely.

It looked nice to me which is why I linked it! Hopefully you get your white whale soon :)

Mine would be a 5 ct + vivid pad with no brown. On the occasion I come across the right color they are usually much smaller and still out of my price range.:( But that definitely is my dream stone.

Heated or untreated Mrs Strizzle?

The heat question eats away at me (only in terms of gems, it’s not that drastic taking all aspects of life into account :lol-2:)

Yeah, what the heck. As long as I'm dreaming then unheated is ideal and also tested to be sure it doesn't fade in light (I forget what they call that test.) That said, if I ever see another one like this I'm pulling the trigger regardless of heat. When this one was available there simply was no way.Screenshot_20230730-112559.png

Oh my goodness! How much did they want for that if you don’t mind sharing.

It's been awhile, maybe 2 years so I don't remember exactly. I think it was 21k which I felt at the time was a good fair price already set in a ring I really liked. I just couldn't scrape the cash up in the moment and was heartbroken.

I saw this

I'm looking for a lavender, lilac, purple, or violet stone in a cut with larger face/less depth, for a ring. I would prefer an oval or cushion shape, and I'm not too worried about gem type (sapphire, spinel, some forms of garnet..).

basically, like this but oval. It's a starbright cut sapphire from John Dyer

HI:

Another person dreaming of a stunning Pad.....

cheers--Sharon

A big, fine-color, step-cut (preferably octagonal or at least emerald-cut with generous cut corners) blue sapphire for my Hemmerle-style ring that seems to get further and further away the longer I dawdle.

Had an opportunity to visit the Winston/Rockefeller emerald at Harry Winston in NY a week or two ago. (Important note: not the reason for my trip. And: no photos permitted. And: weirdly, the security seemed to be a fraction that of Vacheron down the street) Winston bought it for > $5 million not too long ago so I'm sure it'd be an eight-figure purchase now. It was insanely vivid and rich and clean. It was ~ 180 degrees away from their more pauper-friendly emeralds that were gorgeous in their own right and I'm sure were all six figures (no prices in the whole boutique), but they literally paled in comparison to the star -- no wonder they were not displayed side-by-side! I had to keep walking round and round the display case -- just whistling with my hands behind behind my back and not arousing any suspicion whatsoever.

My white whale.

5 years in pursuit

She’s not conventionally perfect but she’s perfect to me

She looks perfect to me! What a perfect pink. Please tell us the backstory of how you acquired her.

I fell desperately in love with @Crimson's Minerva, so sometime I would like, maybe, a cabochon emerald. This one is very pretty (to my eyes, I am no judge of emeralds) but it is not in the budget - in part because there is no budget, I am just dreaming.

Thank you for loving Minerva, @empliau. This emerald looks so liquid, I think it is gorgeous :kiss2: the setting is elegant good I love trapezoid side stones

Here's a blue, but Arglye blues tend to have a violetish look, so came to mind!
Carat: 0.41
Size: 4,7mm
Clarity: VVS2
Colour: GIA Fancy Gray-Blue |Argyle BL2 plus

Thanks for the heads up! Maybe they’ll put it on hold while I arrange for the wire in 50 years? Then again, I don’t want to settle on the color.

Something like this

There are lots of holy grail items that would be realistically out of reach I could list. Like, lotto worthy.

But some are still within reach, barely, and while I also ofc want a super sapphire/emerald/etc etc, what I keep track of actively and look out for - are tiny, super rare colored diamonds.
I keep an eye out/document pricing for tiny vivid greens, 'paraiba' like green-blues, and vivid pinks. Those colors are priority. I'm talking 0.05-0.2ct range.
I also keep track of intense/deep tones in case I have a lower budget when the time comes. I care more about the stone than the grading.

I am trying to make myself not want a tiny tiny red too, like this 0.01ct Argyle red for 8k.

As for something I am ACTIVELY hunting and hoping to buy - natural pearls of unusual colors. You sometimes see strands of these in christies and sothebys for $$$ but I would like just a few loose ones. Not white the regular cream, and must be natural and non cultured. I keep an eye out - they sometimes appear in antique jewellery but Ive never found a piece where the pearl stood out to me enough and the piece was not insanely expensive.
I like the bluish grays, greens, purples - moody colors!
I cant find the sothebys listing for it but this is my ideal pearl color range. That center, wow. Yeah, good luck to me!
