What's your holy grail, Moby Dick, the one you're always looking for?

Is there something that's always at the back of your mind, that you hunt for regularly? The one that you'll know it when you see it? Or maybe you saw it, let it go, and regret missing out?

For me, it's the perfect belle époque antique platinum/diamond/lilac sapphire or amethyst ring. It can't be too big or bulky, and the shade and design have to be just right. I've come close a few times, but I still haven't found what I'm looking for (cue U2 music..)

How about you?

I guess for a while my white whale was a fine lavender spinel. I found one I love, so now I'm not sure. Perhaps it would be giant XL versions of every stone in my collection.

Something like this? Or is this too deco? I bought this ring for the setting, thinking the stones were synthetic sapphires (the seller thought so too) and intending to replace them, but they turned out to be natural.

I can't keep it to just one! I can do two categories. Preferably none would be in a step cut. I want lots of facets, and no windows!
First, my neon yellow- green over 5 ct. chrysoberyl.
Second, pink sapphires! 3 of them, all over 5 cts. I ultimately want a light pink (peachy rather than purpley), a medium pink (Pad-ish that leans pink) and a vivid hot pink. Hoping that one of the sapphires pops up at a price that does not involve selling a kidney before my birthday next year because it will be my present from my DH. :kiss2:

My holy grail is a star ruby that ticks all the boxes: about 10-12mm diameter; bright, sharp star, properly oriented; clean straight red body colour; just the right amount of translucency for the star to 'cut into' the stone.

This is a true holy grail in the sense that, like the grail itself, it doesn't exist (at least at any price remotely within my budget). But it's the mental image that I use as a standard to judge actual star stones.

I like this - multiple whales! A whole pod of pink sapphires.
Hope your dream comes true.
For me , it is always neon spinel or glowing ruby or luscious emerald. Every time there is a new one near me, it is like a siren call — I will be irresistibly drawn to it.

This is on of my favourite rings on PS. I frequently look on eBay for something similar

That's my white whale too.
