I am in the process of putting together my 20yr anniversary ring

. A PS member sent me a link for an ACA diamond as well as Celina from WF where I am ordering my ring. I looked at it but shortly after that the diamond was listed as sold. A few days ago though it showed back up in the inventory. It is priced much lower than other ACA''s. I am still learning all the nuances of the numbers so I can''t tell what they all mean. Any thoughts on what might be wrong with this diamond that it is priced lower and apparently was rejected by another customer?

Part two of my question is this: Is it better to buy an ACA even if all I could afford is the least expensive lowest ACA available or go for a regular princess? For example if I could choose between a regular princess with decent numbers and a color of G or H and clarity of VS1 or VS2 or buy an ACA with color of I or J and clarity of SI1 for the same money, what would the better choice be? The setting I have chosen is a traditional cathedral in yellow gold with platinum prongs if that helps any.

This forum has been such a huge help to me! I appreciate all the great advice! I can''t wait until I get to post my ring picture!!! Hopefully that will be in the next month or so. It will only be our 19 year anniversary this year but we are celebrating early

Kat, it looks like the inclusion that is right in the center of the stone could be the reason for rejection. Did you ask Whiteflash of it was eye clean? It looks like it might not be.

I think most would agree that their Experst selection would be a good choice as well.

I think it''s a beautifully cut stone but I am not an expert on Princess cuts. The ASET looks nice with a nice pattern of red, blue and green. I recently upgraded for my 25th anniversary and with my older eyes I can''t see the inclusions like I used to. I decided for my new stone I could get lower color and lower clarity because I needed to spend the money on size and cut. Those were the things I could appreciate without a loupe! Congrats on your anniversary!

sounds like it might have clarity issues... ask WF...

Wow! I''m glad I asked. I really had it in my head that the ACA''s were top of the line so the idea it might not be eye clean hadn''t even crossed my mind. I checked out the Expert Selection diamonds but there are only a handful of princess cut 1ct. stones available and they are all way over my budget.

That answers part two of my original question. It looks like the ACAs and ES diamonds are going to be out of my price range unless they have something wrong with them so I will start focusing back on regular princess diamonds. I do plan to stick with GIA graded diamonds and not EGL based on what I have read her about the reliability of EGL grading.

Thanks!!

Kat

Do you want to go over a carat? Staying right under at .90 or .95 may be a better option in your price range.

By the way - Congrats on 20 years (almost)!
