Ahhhhhh
I see
just once i made this beetroot cake but unlike my carrot banana cake it was a light coloured cake and you could see the beetroot
None of us were brave enough to try it
beetroot is a cool kid right now but it wasn't always so

Anyway sounds a yummy day at your place

Finished assembling dessert!

Lucky you don't have Gary's DIL coming to lunch
she would sit there and eat the berries off the top before its cut
its one thing a child doing this at their house with their own mother's baking but quite another thing entirely when an adult does it at someone else's house :angryfire:
(And then she broke one of my green wine glasses i particularly like)

Changing my Christmas dessert to caramel flan since it was requested for Thanksgiving, and we ended up with deep fried oreos and pumpkin pie.
Also adding stuffed mushrooms to the Christmas menu, and grilled tomatoes with mozzarella and basil .

Put the chicken in a bit hot but lucky everything was covered in bacon although Gary complaining its dry (the cats' chicken is moist)
When im making something nice i often used tinned mandarins because we never had them at home but my aunty always did, so they are often in my salads and on my deserts20201225_142249.jpg
Gary says its dry - his has beetroot and a french dressing
he does like the pine nuts but not the pomegranate (too be fare his eye problems effect his food because he can't tell what some stuff is )

Leftovers. From tonight’s (very socially distanced) Christmas Eve dinner:

bone-in rib roast (it was fantastic!)
Oven-roasted baby potatoes and cipollini onions
Asparagus - grilled today, but likely pan-fried tomorrow.
Homemade chunky applesauce

Today’s dinner was covid tinged. My sweetie and I prepared the meal and ate outdoors, together with a niece and her hubby and young daughter. Sweetie’s mother and her SO ate indoors, where she’s been convalescing from a broken femur since March or so. Tomorrow’s leftovers feast(s) will be indoors and very relaxed, just the two of us. Looking forward to it!

Oh i hope sweetie's mum is finally healed soon
At least she didn't have to cook but this socially distancing thing although necessary is sad when you put actually people into the picture

Tooo much lobster. Not enough clams.
Still ate way too much of each.::)
Delicious, but it always seems to take at least three times more to clean it all up than to make it/eat it.
This morning we'll make lobster omelets!

I’m working Christmas Eve and Christmas Day both on night shift so I made a really easy filipino spaghetti dish and a dumpling soup with pork, shrimp and bok choy. I was going to also make a ham but my kids probably wouldn't eat it anyway. My kids and I had some already for Christmas Eve before I left for work.
I figure I’ll get home this morning, watch the kids open the gifts, go to sleep and my husband can just reheat the food. I’ll also take some with me for tonight at work. Usually my second night I don’t like to get up to eat so I wait until I get to work to eat.
No picture of the dumpling soup but here is a picture of the spaghetti. Filipino spaghetti has hot dogs, banana ketchup and cheddar cheese. It’s almost like a sweet version of spaghetti.

So full after lunch
(It was just salad and cheesecake)
Postponed the ham dinner to boxing day and just had ham sandwhiches for tea with more cheesecake
Gary was telling his daughter on the phone about the eggnog
Seemed he did enjoy it
(More uccessful than the buttered rum i made one winter)

So i just might make a bigger batch next time !
Definatly for the shortest day

Ugh, I’m so sorry @Daisys and Diamonds, I agree with @TheGarnetGirl, Gary is an ungrateful so and so. Your bread looked delicious.

Thank you Austina
It wasn't quite as fantastic as i hoped, but hay it was fresh out of the oven bread !!
Just have to work out how to stop the cheese escaping - neatness over rustic

Just having a rum ball
(Only 4 left)

Just finished my cinnamon swirl French toast, stuffed mushrooms (surf and turf), some with clams, some with bacon....and our all day sausage and rotel dip. Still waiting for my teens to wake up so we can open presents and eat brunch!C4721562-D0A4-4A2B-A5A9-6E1E05A4B672.jpeg

We're eating whole wheat cranberry/walnut bread, lentil/ham soup, tabouleh - all home made completely from scratch.
Healthy, scrumptious, and very time-consuming to prepare.

Oh wait :o ... that's how we eat all year. ;))

Quarter to five boxing day here
Had ham sandwhiches for lunch
Best ham ever !
Thinking about what's for tea
Defrosting some satay chicken kebabs that came in the meatbox from Melanie
I don't like satay so I'll rinse mine off under the tap before i cook it

Hope you are all having a festive day - even if its not the usual for some of you

I've been meaning to tell you, after reading several of your posts about your life style, how much regard I have for the commitment you've made to leaving a small footprint on the planet. From your recycling to your purchasing decisions to your culinary choices, I wish I had the totality of commitment that you have.

Honey cure ham
Home made mac n cheese with sharp cheddar cheese.
Apple crisp for desert.
Then later had some crackers with 12 year aged cheddar from Woodman's. yummy!
If you have a Woodman's nearby check out their cheese selection.

I took my 8 y/o daughter to IHOP for a late-night dinner. She ordered chocolate milk, mac n' cheese, and a waffle with blueberries. We had the sweetest server who must have been about 18-19 years old and wearing Christmas everything from head to toe, which thrilled my daughter to pieces. As we left and walked back to my car we saw a shooting star. It was one of those perfect nights you know you'll never forget. I hope she remembers it for the rest of her life.

On our way home, in the midst of her musings about how she couldn't believe she'd be NINE next Christmas and said she felt like she'd only been 8 for like 2 months, she just kind of stopped and said so clearly and loudly, "I'm going to love you forever, mommy!"

I love food and I wish I'd been able to serve family and friends a beautiful meal, but I'll take chain diner food with the best person ever any day, Christmas or not. My heart is full.

All of your meals look and sound amazing. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my fellow PSrs. I'm so grateful to have been part of this community for so many years.
