What's for Christmas Dinner?

My grandma used to make the best. With anise!
She kept them in a coffee can lined with wax paper, to stay fresh.
So I make them in her memory.

I have bought DeLallo's before (made right there in PA!) but homemade are still the best.

That so sweet! I’ll tell my friend about DeLallo’s. She bought some store bought ones for the holidays one year...She wasn’t happy. They were broken and tasted like cardboard.

This. Will be for dinner.

If he doesn’t start behaving. Oliver l’orange.

Baked in the oven or grilled on the BBQ. That is the question.

:wink2:

But he's so little and innocent! He couldn't possibly misbehave!

I’ll make you a deal. I’ll give you Oliver and a pair of earrings I have. Any pair you want. Lol

ETA except for the pair I’m considering right now. Lol. If I buy this pair that’s not part of the deal :)
But any other pair.

Maybe the offer should be "Free earrings to any PSer (with a complimentary cat thrown in)"

No. It has to be a PSer I know would treat them as a family member. :) Those who know furry babies are as important as humans. :)

Haha I already have a promise from a PSer to take all 4 should greg and I die before they do. A PSer who loves cats as much as we do. ❤️

I’ll text you. I don’t want to “out” her on PS lol. She’s the best. Loves animals like we do. ❤️❤️❤️

Breakfast: Irish coffees, some kind of frittata, and homemade cinnamon rolls

Lunch: beer

Dinner: Prime rib baked rubbed in salt, garlic, and rosemary and cooked on the smoker, smoked baked potatoes, and Brussels sprouts sautéed with bacon. Oh, and the hottest horseradish we could find in the pandemic.

Waaaaah, sob, I miss my grandma's pizzelles. Last time I visited Pgh, my aunt made me a huge batch and I ate all of them. She uses the vintage pizzelle maker she inherited from my grandma, the one you hold over a gas burner and make one at a time. They are part of fond Christmas memories along with these

Yes, Torrone! The pretty little boxes are the best part!
I bought some a few years ago from the Italian shop here and I ate the whole package myself.

I've always found this SNL skit to hit a little too close to home lol

It literally couldn't be more truthful!

Laughing so hard right now my cats think that I've gone nuts!

"And I burned my arm in the oven!

It hurt pretty bad, but I didn't even scream because I keep the pain inside of me! :wall:"

Bahahahaha

This is hilarious!!

I am really looking forward to mashed potatoes. I make them with heavy cream and a lot of butter. One bite and my arteries will clog with joy.

No it's like a drink, not thick at all.

Do you know Pearl milk tea (I think they call it boba tea in the US)?

It's the same consistency so like a cold drink but with bits of fruit and jelly in it.

Ahhhhhhh

Yes we have bubble tea here but ive never tried it

I would love oliver and Gracie at my place, they would love Borris wouldn't cope and i would serously never risk sending a cat on any airplane after what happened to that big champion bunny rabbit

Marry Christmas everybody
Compliments of the season from our home to yours
For all you mothers
By this performance, Mrs Springsteen's altimeters had become pretty bad

Too hot for mashed spuds
But I'll tuck away your ideas for the winter
Christmas is for small new potatoes boiled in minted water served with butter
Melt in your mouth stuff
Sacrilege to mash new spuds

So i got up at 7am
OMG !
The bread dough was amazing !
Two simple culinary things i equate to miracles
Bread dough (and hopefully once its baked too) and digging potatoes out of the earth

Anyway the bread was good but for guests i would need to shape the cheese and the bread balls better so it doesn't leak out of the bread
This recepie was hood because it made enough to freeze half for a pizza base

Thinking about making a bread plait tomorrow now

....wait for it
He said don't make that again
Should have got salsa

- the last one was a good idea - wish i had thought of it

I'm sorry but your man is starting to sound like a little ungreateful butthole. (I would use a different word choice but PS doesn't allow it.)

He should be thrilled you're cooking at all! A lot of women don't cook a thing and shouldn't have to!

Thank you @TheGarnetGirl

The worst thing is he destests Bruce Springsteen- despite him being 100% Springsteen demigraohic- Bruce has spent the best part of 50 years writting songs for Gary, and he just doesn't care

As for cooking
He tends to remember the disasters and not the really good meals (of which there are plenty)

And i'm an experimental cook with adverouse taste keen to try new things just not always with the skill to carry it off
But since i got an almost new oven my baking 'improved' in leaps and bounds - i told him all those years it was the crappy old oven we had in our rented place

I worked up till today and am on call so I ordered from Whole Foods for the first time! Loving being lazy.B83F1AC1-10B9-4880-A5D5-6E767E55B77C.jpeg

I see a lot of you ladies are making mashed potatoes to go with your Christmas dinner. I'm wondering how you all make yours? I mash mine & add butter & cream & mix until it is smooth as silk=)2 Please tell me how you make yours

Made in London, I make mine the same way you do with the addition of an ounce or two of cream cheese.

@Made in London We like our mashed potatoes with a few lumpy bits so I don't whip them completely smooth. I use heavy cream and butter for basic potatoes. Variations may include additions of sour cream or roasted garlic or manchego cheese.

This!!!!

Plus I'm picky about the potato variety... The ones meant for salads and scalloped potatoes (yellow, waxy flesh ) get gluey when mashed. I hate this with a passion as does my family.

I buy "laura" for mash. And "Annabelle" for boiled potatoes or hash browns. If roasting in the oven "la ratte".

We have diffetent varieties but i so get this !
Very important

When i first left school and went to work in the garden centre as the junior i got to bag up literly tonns of seed potatoes
I got really good at knowing the varieties by site

of couses that was now quite a long time ago and the varieties change over time

but down home, where new potatoes are a deliciously, its Jersey bennies for boiled new spuds at xmas

i hope ours are ok this year - the ones from down home were out of my price range this year, ive had to buy generic little diggers -
i usually buy about 6 little boxes of Oamaru jersey bennies and mint plants to give as extra gifts to Gary's family on the day

People up here don't seem to get it but its a huge deal down home
I remember one year front page news was over $100kg for the first of the season's new potatoes and the restaurant that brought them at auction mashed them (must have been a north island cook :angryfire: )
My mother and a lot of other mothers were outraged
