I got these antique earrings with the thought of making them into two studs (see markup) and now I'm having second thoughts...
They came with the original box too. Help!

I love drops and these are stunning so I would just leave them! Plus the style is common enough that it seems like you should just be able to get ready-made studs like this if that's what you want.

I think they are lovely as is!

If you don’t like the way the Shepard hooks hang on the ear you could always try adding those little silicone backs to help them hang a little more vertical or if you really find the shepard hooks uncomfortable they could easily be removed and a straight post placed at the back of the top bezeled diamond and keep the dangles/drops intact.

Good luck they are beautiful :)

@stepcutnut I need to fix my earlobes. I'm planning to start calling places this week.

10 mm silicone earring backs, keeps studs from sagging off my old, tired earlobes.
Those are exquisite pieces, I hope you don't change them.

I think they are beautiful and if you will wear them enough as drops, then I'd keep them that way. If you don't think you'll wear them, then I'd change them to studs. Just trying to be practical.

If she doesn't want to wear them as drops, she should be practical by selling them to me!! :) :lol-2:

I would leave them as they are too! :kiss2:

I like them as is! And your piercings are fine. No one but you will ever notice anything other than lovely earrings.

I would remove the fish hook fitting and turn the top diamond into a post fitting.

Such a conversion would not suit my ears personally, as my earlobes are long and plumb and swing slightly outwards.

The top part with post of dangle-style earrings must have sufficient depth for the dangle to hang clear of the earlobes.

Hence I don't have such earrings, and the only dangles I wear are hung from my tiny diamond huggies that sit very snug on my earlobes.

Each to their own and all that.

Unless your piercings/earlobes bother you people will only be focused on those lovely earrings! I just know for me personally Shepard hooks always lean forward and then the hook tickles me when I move.

These are so gorgeous! I would leave them as is. I adore the setting with some of the old cut diamonds prong set, and some bezel set. Very special pair of earrings you have there lucky lady.

I’m a strong “camp danglie,” but then, I rarely wear any sort of post earring these days. It seems they never sit on my lobes just right, and in any event, danglies tend to be more flattering for me. But these are your earrings, not mine - lucky you! If you’re serious about having work done on your lobes, maybe wait to see how that works out before deciding?

In the mean while, have you tried the earring support patches that go on the back of your ear? Lobe Wonder is one brand. A bit of a pain to position correctly but they can be a great help with heavier dangling earrings

@dk168. Is that you? If so, you have such thick hair. I'm jealous lol

Amazing! They are absolutely gorgeous as dangle earrings. Do you happen to know what period they are from? Early Victorian maybe?

@LightBright the seller thinks Victorian. The maker was in production for a very long time and recently closed, so I was toying with the idea of contacting them to see if they have records.

That would be super interesting if the maker could give you some more info on the beauties :)
