What would you do? E-ring reset

Just had my e-ring reset after 15 years in a setting I really never liked from the beginning and did not pick out. My primary issue was the sloppy, bulky prongs. This was my chance to finally get exactly what I wanted. I gave the jeweler pictures and he was to replicate the exact setting. For the most part it came out spot on. Except for the prongs. The prongs are supposed to be petite claw prongs. I have been lusting after the clean, finished, delicate look of claw prongs for 15 years! The setting overall is beautiful and the tiny ball prongs are nicely done. But it is not what I wanted. I am definitely going back to the jeweler to mention it and see what is offered to be done, but I don’t know if I should just keep it and enjoy it because it is still beautiful, or if I should demand that the setting be remade. What do y’all think?

Can you ask if the jeweler is able to re-tip, or re-build the prongs? The ring itself is beautiful

I know exactly how you feel about prongs! My original ER (also chosen without my input) had blobby prongs. After 5 years of lusting after delicate claw prongs, I finally have them.

Your ring/setting is beautiful! I would also ask the jeweler to re-tip them, if possible. You’ve waited this long, you should have exactly what you want!

I would talk with the jeweler and explain the situation. I’m assuming you were as clear to him/her as your post here.

You’ve been waiting 15+ years for delicate claw prongs and even if he did the best job ever on the other prongs it’s not what you asked for or have been desiring. More importantly it’s not what you paid for either.

IMO he has a professional responsibility to ensure the finished job is what was requested. All that said, I doubt he did so with ill intent. While this is likely very personal to you it may have been an honest mistake. I would approach with a positive attitude and simply explain the grievance and ask him if he can help fulfill your dreams.

Even if we are right, HOW we ask for remedy is equally important. Everyone likes to be treated with respect and dignity. Asking appropriately gives an opportunity to resolve without losing face.
