Ah ha. Did a little research, and found lots of articles stating that doctors used to believe women with c-sections shouldn''t eat solid food for a few days due to bowel functions, but that studies have proven that this thinking was incorrect and now women that have c-sections have no reason to delay eating solid foods. Yea! That''s good news! http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0CYD/is_17_36/ai_78541995/

That makes sense. My doctor was very on top of recent research (which is why I loved him so much considering that I am in health research myself) so that would explain why he didn''t make me wait but maybe more uninformed/more old fashioned doctors would make people wait.

I was ravenous by the time they let me eat-I can''t imagine waiting any longer!
I didn''t know that it was because of the c-section. I only had to have my meals the day of the birth as liquid. They said I wouldn''t be able to hold anything down and clear barf is a lot easier to deal with! As I said, the mag was absolutely wicked and the room was spinning a few times. Toxemia fun!

After breakfast the next morning (liquid), they said I was fine and gave me the go ahead to eat solids. It tasted so good! I think the liquid meals are a ploy to make the solid hospital food seem like manna from heaven. Sort of like good cop/bad cop!

My Ex went a got me a roast beef sandwich from the Good Earth Cafe in the hospital. It was the best thing I had ever tasted..... although I am sure if I had the same one today it would not taste so good.

The next morning my ex brought me a Tim Horton''s coffee.... mmmmmmmm.

I was induced at 6am, delivered at 4:30pm and had nothing to eat during that time or the night before.

My wonderful uncle went to my favorite Tex-Mex restaurant (I live in Austin) and brought me cheese enchiladas. Best damn enchiladas I've ever had.

Hospital tray of spagetti with meat sauce, soft roll, salad with package of italian dressing, and some kind of pudding like dessert. I was so hungry I ate every last crumb!

A heaping plate of sushi -- both times! I had missed it so much during those 18 months!!!

Sushi is my fave food. Interestingly, I didn''t miss it at all when I was preggo...didn''t crave it once and it sounded awful to me. So strange! Fortunately, after birth, the craving came right back!!!

Hospital dinner but I can''t remember what it was! Eating wasn''t pleasant for me because I had a hiatal hernia from L&D. It felt weird when food went down my esophagus and I wasn''t really that hungry.

My hospital offers the "Romantic Post-Partum" dinner, so DH and I shared what was actually quite a delicious steak and taters meal. (I think they contract out to local restaurants, because the other hospital meals were meh).

hospital breakfast, which wasn''t that bad. i just remember the tater tots, which are a favorite of mine, so i enjoyed them. haha.

Sad to say, I don''t remember with any of the kids born in the hospital, but the first thing I ate after my 2 year old was born was Fig Newtons that I had my oldest son stop and pick up when he was on the way over to greet his brother.

I wasn''t that hungry because I had ordered a pizza 5 hours before (about 6 hours into a rather disjointed labor).
