I just got a diamond ring which has a .30 ct. I was wondering what type of magnification I would need in order to see the GIA laser inscription. I would go see a jeweler but all the smaller businesses require me to buy services beforehand.

If you are young enough and are incredibly gifted with your eyesight, you may be one of the very few who can do it with 10X. Many can do it with 20X, but most will require 30X to do it well.

Of course, with 30X, the focus depth is very shallow as well as the field of view being small. It will require practice. You will want a better quality loupe at 30X to avoid a poor view.

Most good jewelers have microscopes, but they may balk at letting you borrow their scope if you bought the diamond elsewhere. At my office we are always willing to share, and I am sure if you ask around you can find a jeweler in your area who is also interested in working with you at no charge.

This is a cool little scope!!! Thanks for sharing this

Your welcome. I have tried a few cheap scopes. This is the only one that works for me.

I am looking to pick up a loupe, ASET viewer, H&A viewer and idealscope viewer along with a cleaner of some sort.

I stumbled on this earlier, and thought it might be nice to couple with a standard 10x loupe. I am curious, have you tried to take a picture using your cell phone and the scope together? I was wanting that ability.
