Dressing up.
I once turned down free tickets on a luxury cruise because I refuse to wear a coat and tie.

This is the main reason I dread funerals, job interviews and weddings.
When I die I wish to be buried in shorts, a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops sunglasses and a hat.

Oh and TV - never watch it.
TV is the new opiate of the people.
If you don't believe me just try to quit.

Hawaii sounds right for you! When we were there they told us the only time you see a man in a suit is for a job interview or going for a bank loan...every other time is casual!

Live music. It's always too loud. I make exceptions only if I know (and like
3.gif
) someone in the group performing.

Also dance clubs. I actually love to dance, and love the idea of a club... but again, too loud.

Basically anything too loud.

I'm starting to sound like a grandma, huh?

I agree, except for classical music which is all I listen to now.

BTW, I bring ear plugs if I go to a movie theater.

Stucco McMansions, Faux Victorians, Tuscan-esque. Pretty much all the recent architecture
20.gif

I'm with you on that, PP.

I also dislike:
- Disney world, and other plastic amusement parks
- Las Vegas
- A cappella singing. This is sort of out of my control--I get physically ill whenever I hear it, and I'm being literal here. Very, very ill.
- Fish

The smell of peanuts roasting. Rip-my-nose-off-insanity, and nausea producing.

The smell of garlic toast...toasting. Love both roasted peanuts AND garlic toast, just can't stand to be around the process when heat is applied. Weird, I know.

Loud music. Which makes me odd for my generation, which is on its way to self-induced deafness as I type. Which leads me to say that as a consequence of this dislike, my hearing is still quite excellent, so that I am driven totally insane by small, repetitive noises. I'll go on a rampage trying to find and STOP them. Other people don't hear them and think I'm nuts. Oh..yeah, my TV (LCD flat) emits an ultra-high pitch when turned off. Just the tiny bit of electricity in it (that all gadgets now seem to require even when turned OFF. Go figure. No wonder we burn to much fossil fuels) causes this, and I have to actually kill the switch it is wired to, just to get some peace and quiet. Husband rolls his eyes.

Oatmeal. Dear GOD, why would anyone eat something the DOG hurked up??

Rollercoasters.

Haven, why don't you like a cappella? (ETA - Derrrr....you don't KNOW. You said that. It makes you sick, that's reason enough! LOL. Please disregard the implication that you must justify. Not the intent!) Not criticism or disbelief, just really curious, and fascinated. I listen to it, and have performed rather a lot of it, and unless it's just awful - and granted there is probably more awful than not....it's bloody HARD work and requires viscious relative pitch and serious vocal skills - or the blend sucks, I can't imagine what about it that would actually induce illness. Is it only when ONE person does it? Ensembles? Can you identify what about it makes you ill? (Do you know if you have some form of kinesthesia?)

i dont like spicy food.

black tea makes me gag, and has since i was a child - i dont know why - the tannin maybe?

and...(and here''s my big confession)....

i don''t really like chocolate.

i love vanilla, caramel and fruit. but not chocolate. just never been a fan.

nice to see you Whitby...I thought you left to Aus. already! Since we both don''t like spicy food...when we meet up, we know a Mexican rest. is out of the question!

Parties
Most neighbors and most people (hehe) - leave me alone, I'll leave you alone
Facebook - way too intimate for my taste, everybody sharing this and that
Amusements parks - too many wet dripping people all in one place
Jacuzzis and pool parties - sharing the water with other people not my cup of tea
The water in general - I like athletic things, but on the GROUND
The beach
Live music - too loud, and I much prefer a DJ
Rollercoasters

ETA: atroop reminded me of one...parades

one more...(thanks atroop) - Bars - especially loud bars...if it's a subdued type of bar, where we can talk, I can get into that once in a while...I do loooovee my red wine
3.gif

ok I''ve thought of some more..

I don''t eat red meat at all..the smell of red meat cooking makes me gag
I don''t like licorice or cocoanut
don''t like anything spicy
don''t like parades (find them boring except the Macys Tgiving parade..gotta love Santa!)
cheap perfume...makes me GAG...any scent that''s strong gives me a headache
I don''t like liquor...I''m a wine or champagne person but that''s done a every once in a while
I HATE BARS...I''m a cafe type of person... not a fan of crowds and drunk ppl
HATE PIE...any pie
HATE Cream soda, Dr Pepper, any diet soda, 7UP, Mountain Dew...yuck
Hate TEA...all kinds of tea
HATE corn beef hash..looks like ALPO

LOL this reminds me of the Dane Cook skit where he talks about how clubs are always just way too freaking loud, and you hear a ringing in your ears for three days after. Hah! I totally agree with you!

mayo. DISGUSTING!
motzarella sticks, onion rings.... most fried foods really... except fried pickles - those are DELICIOUS!

Been reading a lot of your posts across the forums, Moh, and find you very quick-witted.

Things I have no use for that other people love:

Purses
Wasabi or ginger anywhere near my sushi
Gemstones (excluding a diamond here and there, I suppose
41.gif
)
Beer
Wine
Being tipsy or drunk
Disney as a whole
Snow

ETA: Me too with the rollercoasters. And also SUVs.

Pets in the bedroom
Popcorn
Soda [any]
Licorice

I know a cappella takes a lot of hard work, and I *admire* the talent and the effort that goes into it, I do! My father was in an a cappella group for years and I felt bad that I could never attend his performances.

First, I get nauseous, then dizzy, and then I feel like I''m going to vomit, so I run away. It happens only with ensemble groups, I can tolerate one person signing alone, and I do get sick upon hearing a cappella in person, and on a recording or on television.

I really don''t know why it makes me ill, but it does. I do think I''m more sensitive to sound than most people. I can still hear people on the phone when they use the "mute" button, and I nearly always hear this horrible low buzzing sound coming from televisions and computer screens. The sound of certain construction machines (namely, the ones that produce a really low buzzing sound that everyone else says they can''t hear) also makes me feel physically ill.

And, I really hate to admit this, I couldn''t tolerate Lily Tomlin''s voice when she used to play that character Edith Ann. I also have a hard time with Julia Child, but I adore her so much that I''ve learned to deal with it. (Though, family legend has it that I would regularly get up and turn the volume dial all the way whenever Julia Child or Edith Ann would come on the screen, and my mother swears that I once threw a basketball into the television set when the volume dial wasn''t working. Pish posh, I say, I was a nonviolent child.)

This is wild, Haven! Kinda cool, though, in a sorry, that must suck kind of way.

Does that mean no "It''s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday" by Boyz II Men? Crying shame. HEE!
25.gif

Nightclubs
Concerts (indoors- I love outdoor concerts)
Parties (hmmm... sensing a ''loud, crowded enclosed places'' theme here...)
Casinos (and yup, I''m about to go to Vegas- but dh assures me there is a ton to do that doesn''t involve gambling)

Mayo- there is nothing on this planet that disgusts me more...
Beer

Coach. That could get me shot around here, I know, but I''ve never understood the appeal. I guess the Coach look just doesn''t do it for me.

OK all you mayo and licorice haters...more for me
36.gif

I hate Miracle Whip with a passion. It''s a miracle anyone eats it IMO. I don''t like my mayo sweet.

Oh, man, this is going to be a long list ....

In media? "The Godfather." The whole thing. Friends tried to make me watch it once, and 20 minutes in, I picked up a book. Afterwards, I called a friend to complain, and she said, "Honey, don''t you remember? All of this happened two years ago, too. Same friends, same movie ... is it at least the same book? Are you close to finishing it now?" I hate the movie so much I blanked it out. Oy. I also hate "There''s Something About Mary," "The 40 Year Old Virgin," "The Weatherman," and, in point of fact, just about any stupidly ironic movie that looks at gender stereotypes for its meat. Seth Rogen, Judd Aptow? Haaaaaaaaaaate.

In fashion: Uggs, flip-flops, pants with writing across the ass, sweatpants or pajama pants worn as pants out in public, leggings as pants - seriously, what ever happened to the time honored tradition of pants? - harem pants and anything else that''s escaped from the 80s to torment us anew, and that''s just the tip of the iceberg. I read gofugyourself.com a lot.

Food: I''m getting over it, but I used to be a picky eater. Didn''t have a hamburger until I was 20, didn''t discover I liked soup until I was 4 months pregnant and the morning sickness wouldn''t let me keep anything else down.

What can I say? I''m a bit of a curmudgeon ....

Atroop -- I hear ya on the corned beef hash. My husband likes hash and I cringe every time he orders it at a restaurant.

I hate amusement parks and carnivals. I don't like going on rides of any kind usually, but I have enjoyed the ferris wheel at times. I've been to Disney World twice and Disney Land once and had a good time because there were other things to do besides going on the rides.

I'm not into trends either. For example, I JUST got onto FB because I moved and it is easier to let people know what I'm up to. I consider MySpace and FB to be trends, and I've never seen a MySpace page. Have no desire to. I've never owned a pair of crocs or jelly bracelets/shoes when I was younger. Anything that was/is considered a fad, I'm typically not interested in.

This is a fun thread so I''ll play too....

1. Beer. I hate it and won''t drink it.
2. Vegas. Went once with my parents as a teen and it was smokey, hot and crowded.
3. Driving. I lose my sense of direction easily and freak out.
4. Loud people/things in general.
5. Fish. Blech.
6. Heels/dresses/skirts. I prefer to be comfortable and usually wear jeans & a t-shirt at home.
7. Other people''s kids. I know, I know. My kid, on the other hand, is wonderful
12.gif

8. Places that smell bad - elevators and movie theatres especially.

That''s all for now, but I know there''s more....

Yep, TV for me, as well. I never watch it. . .only watch movies.

Never watched "Dancing with the Stars," "American Idol," or any of those shows.

Also cannot stand huge handbags. Bug the crap out of me.

Loud noised bother me too. Before having kids, I loved loud music, but now, I long for quiet moments. When I''m at home by myself, I do not need "background noise," like some people do. The only noises I hear are the meowing of my cats.

This is a very interesting thread!

My dislikes would be:

chocolate (I know..I''m crazy
23.gif
)
any melon (watermelon, cantalope, etc)
tomatoes and sweet potatoes make me gag
hot coffee
vegas
big cities in general
gardening
dry wine
walking far (i''m not lazy for I workout 6 days a week...just walking inparticular i don''t enjoy)
jazz music
crocs (the shoes)
