What style of ring to go with my wedding ring?

Hello all! I've been reading the forum for about six months for and I need help. I'm already married, I have a wedding ring but not an engagement ring. My wedding ring needs a blingy friend but I can' t decide on a style.

The prices here in Finland are inflated (1990€ for my 0.5 ctw ring, although it is very well made) so I'm looking for a setting online.

I can't really give you a carat size I would like because I can't even decide if it should be a solitaire or an anniversary type ring. My pinterest board is a mess of start of the 20th century dreamy solitaires and sleek modern settings. I do like mismatched rings but I feel they could have some elements in common.

My wedding ring is 14k palladium white gold. 0.18 center, two 0.08 on both sides, all in basket settings. Then four 0.02 stones bead set on both shoulders flush with the shank. H color SI. 3mm shank, which I like. It feels heavy and sturdy.

So, what kind of styles do you think would look goid with this? I can'ts eem to get a good picture now, so here is a screen shot.

have you been to a brick and mortar store to try on different styles with your band? what is your budget?

I would do one of two things i think. Either a simple solitaire with a 2.5-3mm band (i like my bands to be similar width, not necessarily exactly the same.) or i'd just do an eternity or half eternity.

But i think you should definitely try some on, i'm not sure the solitaire would go well with the graduated look of your wedding ring, you need to try several styles on to see what you like. You could always wear your band on your left hand and e-ring on your right or vice versa? that way you're not working so hard to find something that matches, you can get what you really prefer.

9-stone ring: (i chose this one bc the stones would be about 0.16ct each, similar size to your center stone.)

a channel set band might even look good:

Your wedding ring looks more like an engagement ring to me that you would put a similar bead set wedding band next to.

But....if you want it to be your wedding band you are going to have to find the right head/gallery on a solitaire to go along side of your
wedding band.

I like the ones farrahlyn recommended...you need to be able to try rings on that are similar to make sure that they sit well together.

You might look at some of these channel set settings...I'm just not sure how well your ring will set with them. You might need to
wear a small separator ring.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look up those rings for me!

I think you both are right. The couple of plain solitaires I have tried on looked odd with the ring. The rings would not sit flush or the wedding ring would sit against the solitaire's prongs. I didn't care for the prices either 11 000€+ for an H SI ~1ct stone in a plain setting here.

Of the channel set ones I like this:[/url] https://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/channel-set/14k-white-gold-025ct-channel-set-princess-shaped-diamond-engagement-ring-item-1061 Do you think a 2.6mm shank width is close enough to my 3mm one not look odd? Should the head also be a basket one?

I like the last two bands farrahlyn linked to! I wish I could try those on.

I don't really have a budget set. My husband thinks I could spend 10k+ if I find the perfect ring and then stop buying jewelry. I don't know if I can do that LOL. I think I would rather buy more than one piece. Maybe stack several rings? What do you think about mixing metals? Maybe one in yellow gold and another in rose gold? Could I get away with mixing up the styles more when there are more rings?

Is James Allen the best option when I'm an international buyer? Does anyone have experience with buying internationally from Whiteflash?

Also, I like warm diamonds. My husband thinks warm stones will look awful with my whitegold wedding ring with H color stones, but what if I set them in yellow gold?

If you do a search, there have been quite a few posts on international purchases from WF and JA.

how warm? Like a K? i like mixed metals and i don't mind different stone warmth but i'm not too keen on a YG ering with a really warm stone in your case. your band has a lot going on and throw in a solitaire in yellow gold with a warmer stone and it's a WHOLE lotta look.

are you set on wearing the rings together? You could do one ring on each hand and go for a totally different look for your e-ring.

'i do like that channel set solitaire (i think the width would look good with your band) but the side stones are princess and all of yours in your band are round. i'd keep that the same like this one

and i'm just gonna throw this out there... what about a 3 stone ring in the same style as your band? i'm not sure how it would look to be honest but the same ring on a larger scale might be complimentary. again, it's probably something you would HAVE to try on.

Hello greyhouse,

You do have a wide range of options listed in this thread!

Customers often get caught up in the 'is this acceptable,' and 'will this look good,' when, in reality, the opinion that matters is your own. The suggestion presented of going into a brick and mortar store and comparing different looks is a good approach. Also, many online vendors will send you 'sample' settings for a very small fee - call them and ask.

I suspect, based on what I have read, you will go through a lot of options before making a choice - try not to get too worried, this should be fun!

Thank you for the advice. I think I have spent too much time here on pricescope admiring rings :loopy:

I just bought an inexpensive setting from jewelryyhoo on ebay in a style that is completely opposite of what I need, but I think I need to wear something different for a while.

Thank you! I will be back for advice on buying the right diamond when I decide what I want. And yes I think I want a stone that is a k or l or m, around the size of a carat... but everyone is right it will not go with the original wedding ring. And the wedding ring does look like an engagement ring, I have been asked if it's an engagement ring irl more than once.

Thank you for the help everyone! I really needed to hear your opinions and I love that I got such detailed responses on why something will work or will not work.

I definitely think a solitaire could work, but I feel it should be designed to sit flush with your wedding band. Another totally different idea is 2 full channel set bands that match the width of your wb with one worn on each side. Just a thought..,
