What specs should I go for with my budget?

Another thread made by me with a few more questions.

As some of you may already know I am looking to purchase an e-ring from BGD. It is set that I will be getting a H&A Signature stone.

My budget is now $6000 but wouldn't mind $6500 if I cannot pass it up.

So my question is, what specs should I aim for that is obtainable with my budget?

I am thinking of getting a 0.9 RB H SI1 at the minimum. Are there other variations I should go for? I.e. what sacrifices should I make if one or the other is not available.

Thanks!

I would consider going for a BGD Blue. You'll get more stone for your money and chances are
you will hardly everget to see the blue fluorescent. Doesn't look like BGD has any thing in
your size /budget /specs at the moment in either Signature or Blue line. You could give
them a call and ask if they have anything on the way.

I'd put cut at the top of my list, carat next and colour while my 4th would be clarity.

Cut is what will make the diamond stand out from the rest. AGS000 or GIA X/X/X only for an ering stone.
Carat - as budget allows... ;)) .
Colour - I am personally good as low as I/J if it is cut well but others are good only at D/E/F - its all personal.
Clarity - For me, if I can be assured by the vendor it is eye clean to 8" from top AND sides, then I'm good with SI.

What I'd look for in my next diamond, would be medium to strong blue fluorescence, provided it is not milky or oily in appearance - another thing to check with the vendor on.

Thanks Tyty33. I've been looking at the website everyday but nothing so far. So this is more like "what should I look for" for my budget question?

Are my desired specs obtainable? Is there something I should or shouldn't go for?

I'll take a look at the blue but I'd prefer the signature line.

I'm assuming BGD H&A is the best cut, so I wouldn't have the worry about that, correct? Btw what's AGS000, on some AGS reports for the Signature line they say AGS0

My least required specs is Ideal Cut/AGS0, 0.9, H, SI1 - is this obtainable with a $6000 budget?

Um... I would personally put the AGS 000 (or ideal cut) as my first priority. When it comes to diamonds its the cut that makes it come alive. Yes, if you are shopping in the BGD signature line, you don't have to worry about that - they have been vetted by B G personally. If you were to go outside of BGD, then the AGS (American Gemological Society) grading of 000 (or often with AGS it is just a single 0) is important to search for... same with the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) grading of triple X which stands for - excellent cut, polish and symmetry.

Sounds good to me. My heart is set with BGD H&A signature anyways so I know I won't be worried about the cut. Hopefully I can find the right combination of color, clarity, weight with my budget.

I'm thinking 0.9 (or 0.8) would is most likely but I just want to make sure I don't go wrong with a clarity and color.

I second the idea of checking out Brian Gavin Blue diamonds.

They're ideal cut AGS000 from looking at the lab reports. You could drop down in color from H to I with the blue flour. If I had your budget, I'd look for a BG blue @ one carat, I, either SI or VS2. I'd put most of my budget into the stone and get a simple solitaire setting to be upgraded for an anniversary.

BG doesn't seem to have anything with those specs in your price range right now, but I'd wait.

Thanks for another great input everyone. I'll look more into the blue line. It seems that most of these have strong blue fluorescence. In real life situations, how easy is it or when will the blue actually appear? My biggest concern is if my girlfriend doesn't like the blue.

As well, is it all recommended to get a blue line w/ bigger stone (1 carat) rather than a 0.8 or 0.9 Hearts & Arrows?

A lot of people said how amazing the H&A (including Lesley) but I just don't want to be disappointed in getting the Blue line where I could've had a H&A.

Lastly, I've got great info, just spoke with my girlfriend's best friend and she mentioned that my girlfriend wouldn't mind a smaller size as long as the quality/performance is amazing. This is great news for me!
