Just fact-gathering here...

If I were to get a 5 stone ring for my right hand, what size stones would be best? I have a 3.75 finger, so that plus the costs of larger stones, would definitely put a limit on how big I could go. I have a shared prong eternity ring that I do find uncomfortable, so comfort would be key.

Just for comparison's sake, here is a pic of my ering, with a center of .78ct and sides of .41/.42. Would .30s be ok?

I think you're going to need to try on some 5 stone rings in various carat weights to know for sure, but you could also take the total mms across that your engagement ring is, and divide by 5 to see how much ctw would give you the coverage that you want.

I'm a size 6 for my right hand, and .3s are my ideal for my eventual 5 stone, but my finger is significantly larger than yours.

I seriously just emailed DS about this for myself and making it my next project. I wear the same size as you. I'd say .15's at the very least but you could probably go up to .30's in a 5 stone. SNA's wife has a full eternity with .16's I think it looks gorgeous and plenty big on her.

I was thinking .30s too. I'd sell the rest of my RHRs and wear this one only, so I'd want it to be something I'd be happy with the rest of my life and to wear daily.

What size stones were you thinking of and what setting?

I was thinking .25's or .30's too b/c I'd wear it as a stand alone and want the bling. I haven't really thought too much about the setting just yet. I do like the Tiffany basket style but I also like some of the U-prongs too and since it won't be paired with another ring I'd like a really pretty profile.

.30's will be quite blingy! Thanks for posting mine, purplesilk! I will tell you honestly, I would have probably made one with .30's had I not come across the band I bought. But I think mine is really the perfect size for me and definitely has presence or I would have returned it! Mine has a slight taper that you probably can't see, but I think it makes the end stones not look so bulky. I think the center stone is about .25 and they go down slightly to maybe .17-18 on the ends (4mm center and 3.6 on the ends, haven't measured the other 2 but likely 3.8mm). I wish you could see the sparkle because it does look bigger in real life than in the pictures. And I think with your tiny fingers, .20-.25 would be plenty big and still be somewhat in proportion to your e-ring. It would really help if you could find some to try on.

I've been out trying on and I have tried on everything from 1.5 - 2.0. I wear a size 6.... I found in order to be comfortable and no between my fingers I have to stay below 1.75... I would recommend you try them on to decide.

I have also been looking at the different settings..some are more rounded and others more like a bridge (no technical term for this from me)... when they are not as rounded it allowed me to go a little larger...

Hi Logan Sapphire, I wear a size 3.5 but a size 4 on my right hand, and I tried on some rings on my right hand last week and here is what I decided for myself...

The eternity band made up of 16 pointers in a shared prong setting was PERFECT for my right hand. I could wear it as a standalone and it had a great impact. The profile was still low to be comfortable for me.

The 5 stone ring made of 30 pointers and another one with 40 pointers made me look like I was playing "dress up" :( Maybe I just wasn't used to it. Maybe I didn't like the style of how they looked like they protruded up, rather than feeling seamless and integrated with the curve of my finger. The profile was just too high and it felt too blocky. Maybe it was the style that I tried on, but it looked very similar to the low-profile U-settings I see on Pricescope a lot. And then maybe... in five years, I'll change my mind and just love this look! LOL!

For now, I'm leaning towards the 16 pointers for an eternity and not towards a 5 stone....although I do think that a slightly tapered style ala Diamondseeker may alleviate the "blocky" feeling...

You need to go somewhere like Tffany and try them on. The setting makes all the difference and that is the onle place I have seen that has the quality of mounts that you will find at online vendors PSers frequent.

DS, your band is beautiful! I remember when you posted and I was quite in admiration! You brought up a good point- I'm worried that .30s would be too similar to my ering- a 3 stone and a 5 stone seem kind of redundant or repetitive, you know?

I have several rings with pave/milgrain that I find uncomfortable so just worried that anything but a smooth shank near my fingers would be no good. Trying on is a great idea- there's a very nice, helpful Tiffany SA at the one near me. Maybe she'd put up with me looking around.

Thank you! And I do agree Tiffany's is the perfect place to look! When I go in, I tell them I am getting ideas for an anniversary or birthday gift, which is basically true, even though I may not end up purchasing from there!

Logan like you I wear a three stone ring on my left hand. My finger is a size 5 1/2 and my ring has a 1.24 carat center stone with 1/2 carat each sidestones. I received a five stone ring for my size 6 right hand this past summer that is 2 carats total. I too was concerned that a bigger five stone ring might look too much like my three stone ring. I needn't have worried. They really have a totally different look both from the top and in profile. They are each set very differently which also helps. So don't count out 30 pointers until you actually try one on. What appeals to one may not appeal to another. And by the way I absolutely LOVE my five stone ring so have fun shopping for yours!!!

Try them on - different carat weights, different heights, try prong/channel/bar set - go the gamut and see which you like best. Maybe a 5 stone... could become a 7 stone??? :naughty: :Up_to_something:

You'll see which size competes and which size compliments. Maybe 20's could be your comfort zone, knowing your side stones on the ering are .41/.42? And you have lovely slender fingers, so it may not be the total carat 'wattage' that you focus on, but what works on your hand.

Just my $0.02 worth! Have a great time trying them on!!

I have a 5 stone with 15 pointers on a size 3.75 finger. I could go uo to 20 pointers easily, but I'm not sure about 25 pointers. I like low comfort fit rings. Here is mine from ID Jewelry:

25's or 30's but no bigger than that.

ETA: Seeing the pics above I'm thinking 20 pointers are going to be just fine.

I agree that getting to a Tiffany's would be a good idea before ordering anything. I do also think that .20's would probably be just fine...
