Last December I bought a diamond ring from h-samuel, because I thought it was a big shop and it should be crediable, so I did not check the
diamond very carefully, and this diamond was resized on this March, and recently my wife found there is a big spot inside if look at it from the side,
I can not belive it. It has IGI centification and the clarity is SI1/I2, it could have some faults, but I can not believe it is so big and even can been
seen so clarely with human eyes. so I went their shops, and servant told me that centification issue has nothing to do with them, and told me it could
have some faults inside, and she also told me that the clarity should been seen from the upside but not from the side and she said from the upside everything
is OK,then she refused to do anything for me. I do not belive that from the front side she can not see that big spot. And this makes us very angry.
I am a foreigner living in London, I have no idea what to do, can anybody give any suggestion please? Thank you very very much!

Hi xlake and welcome!

That is a pretty wide range for clarity, SI1 - I2....Can you check the IGI report please? I haven't seen an IGI report for a long time in person but I always thought they didn't do split grading, can you look to see exactly what it says please, whether it is SI1 - I2 or one grade or the other? If it is in fact I2 grading then it is highly likely you will see visible inclusions.

What size/ weight is the diamond too please?

Grading labs are not created equal, this page explains how the grading labs rank, IGI being considered less strict than GIA or AGS.

Even if the diamond is in fact graded as SI1 it is still possible to see an inclusion especially from the side, the salesperson is correct in saying that clarity is graded faceup. I wonder, as you have had the ring so long and have only just noticed this, have you cleaned it recently? It is possible something is stuck on the diamond and a good cleaning might get it off. If not and it is an inclusion really I doubt there is anything that can be done unfortunately, it often happens that with SI diamonds that you can see something especially from the side views, and if it is I2 then it is quite likely that the diamond will not be eyeclean and you will see inclusions.

I do feel for you and wish there was some more positive advice I could offer, but I would start with a good cleaning on the diamond, maybe a professional cleaning to make sure that spot isn't something stuck to the stone. If it does turn out to be an inclusion, do Samuels have an upgrade policy that you could use to trade this diamond in to get one of higher clarity?

Also clarity grading is done from the top, so it is possible to see inclusions from side even for stones graded reliably, by AGS/GIA, of clarity grade VS2.

My ring is an SI2 and I went thru the same thing you did, I discovered a fairly large blob (for lack of a better term) in the side of my diamond, you cannot see it from the top at a normal distance, so I took it to an appraiser (my diamond is un-certed) and it came back with a SI2 grading, the grading has to do from what you can see from the top and at a normal distance, not from the side, the flaw kinda bugs me because I know its there, but no one else does
