What shape is this?

So. It turns out I already have an octagon setting! But. It is ideally suited for an 8.3 mm. I would have to get really creative to add layers to it? Also, would it look too much like an engagement ring?

It would make a stunning RHR. I don’t think it will look like an engagement ring, once you have it set. That will be a beautiful conversation piece!! Can’t wait to see it set!!
It’s GORGEOUS, in the setting you bought! That stone is going to look AMAZING in the setting you’re transferring it to!!!
❤️

Wow what a ring, that diamond is really cool and the setting is just huge!

Nala, No one knows settings and what looks good on your finger more than you do. I love the setting you posted. I can’t wait to see this set. It’s beautiful.

Thanks! It is soooo heavy! But I’m enjoying it right now Bc I’m realizing that this stone must stay bezeled!

Awwww...lol....I need to do some photoshop to see how it would look! The stone needs to be bezeled and I don’t know how I would fill 2.5 mm!

Nala, I have no doubt you will figure it out and come up with something stunning. It’s been a lot of fun looking at the beautiful settings you have found thru the years. Everything looks beautiful on your hand!

You are too kind! Lol.

Omg the more pics of it I see the more I love it. It definitely needs to be bezeled. so gorgeous!

Thank you!I totally agree! I feel like the halo competes with it and I’m a total halo lover!

so here is a really bad photoshop...I don’t know if my dimensions are off and I am afraid the Stone will shrink. I would like to use a dark blue sapphire trim to match the side stones.Thoughts? Will this setting shrink the stone?

It is such an unusual cut and pretty stone. Frankly, less is more to really show case it. I like the idea of sapphires or perhaps emeralds bezelled and flanking the octagon sides With an ornate filigree basket so it looks like it came from the 1920s. IMHO throwing more diamonds into the setting will detract from the stone. I do the bezel set for this stone.

There’s no diamonds on my mock-up. I happen to own this setting already but it is 2.5 mm wider than it should be. That’s why I’m on the fence.

If the mock up is the actual setting there appears to be a lot of metal ‘halo’ at the edge. IMHO, any additions of stones other than those colored stones around the octagon sides will make the stone smaller. In other words, more finger coverage may result is diamond shrinkage. I love finger coverage and bling, but there are times that a small, dainty ring has its place.

I think you are right!

Update. Stopped by one of my jewelers today and rescued my diamond from the man ring. lol. Weight cams in at 1.05 carat! was pleasantly surprised!
And I decided not to go with my octagon setting bc it’s too big. But as I’m playing around with my pieces, I’m envisioning a modern bezel setting—maybe a bypass ring? Tho I do love it in a halo! Obviously this one is too big. Lol. Hi Here are some of my inspiration pics!

I think a modern bezel would be amazing. I love halos, but I think this particular stone calls for something sleek to let the glorious cut shine!
