What kind of setting is this?

Is this known as a semi-tension setting? Can someone with experience tell me if it is a fairly reliable setting in yellow gold? Has anyone seen a source for this in North America. Would it be a good idea so see a goldsmith for a custom ring like this? I am asking about the reliability as I have only ever seen one of these, so there might be a good reason there aren't any around. Thank you.

Like with all rings the durability will be affect by the alloy and method of manufacture as well as the thickness of metal and skill of the caster or hand forger.

I do see similar rings often with lose stones caused by flexing of the two bands, to help prevent this I feel the two bands should be joined by a small ring of metal under the diamond, this structure will not be visible but will greatly reduce the flexing that results in lose stones.

Also with a style like this, keep in mind that with larger diamonds the top of the ring will look very chunky when viewed from the side.

Good luck.

I second with 'split shank tension setting'.

Thank you all,
I am looking for a ring for myself. I have tiny, bony, little hands with 4.5 ring size. I was thinking about a small simple setting and ring with a small stone about .3 to .5 ct.

The physical ring that I saw was about the proportion in the pic. and the sides seem slim. Thank you for the suggestion for the reinforcement. I will definately have that done if I choose this.

Regards,
