Bid is currently around $2400 and I know it will go up. But do you think the color will look true to these pics? Also, what is a fair price?

I think it's pretty nice, actually. What's the gold weight? It's over two carats, Burma, really pretty color with a very slight orange undertone(at least on my monitor). It'll have nice glow. It could go for 5k or more at auction pretty easily. If a reseller gets it? Who knows.

Thanks for chiming in! My friend is having a July baby and is looking for a deal on a ruby. I’m not super familiar with them though so I wanted to get a 2nd opinion before shooting it to her.

Forgot to answer - the weight is listed at 16.7 g so about 16.3?

Stone is in great shape as well. Anything under 5 is good, get under 4 and it's a smoking deal.

GIA cert says heated minor residue. Would that make resale difficult for her if she ends up with a June baby? She’s due early July.

Minor residues is the best a heated Burmese ruby can hope to be, more or less. In order to avoid it you have to go into unheated territory and the prices there for top quality material are unironically in the range of 25-30k.

Good to know, thank you!

It’s lovely, to my eye it tones to orange red but has vividness. Heated with minor residues and over 2 carats, agree a good price is under $5,000.
If it isn’t an eBay auction, remember that auction houses have a buyers premium of up to 30% so do check what other fees are payable.

Totally “left field” but an eBay item with 1 hour to go which I would take a punt on at $150. Most lab rubies are the perfect “pigeon blood red” because they can, this is one is toning to orange which isn’t uncommon in lab materials. Seller appears to know little about jewellry and takes awful photos.

I did in fact forget to mention that. It doesn’t sound like she’s going to bid but I should figure that out in case she does.

Thank you for the suggestion but I don’t think she’d be willing to take the chance on it.

Under $5k? I'd go for it for sure....in a heartbeat!

As for the slight orange undertones, I'm guessing that it's an artifact. Burmese material almost invariably leans pinkish.

Assuming this is 18K, the gold alone is worth around $1000 in scrap value alone. Even 14K would be worth around $800 in scrap value.

If I were her? I would. Just saying.

They did well, now we'll wait to see if it goes on IG for 12k+.
