My current "obsession" are animal print pants/leggings. I cannot get enough. I go back and forth with what I am passionate about and I will admit I have a collection of clothing with images of animals on them.

A few new additions to my collection

@missy I adore those kitty-peeping leggings so much!!
I can’t think of a current obsession right now but I’ll come back when I do.

See's Candies double caramel milk chocolates. I have 1-2 a day. They're my treat, my obsession, and something i look forward to every day.

I’m obsessed with decluttering my house and improving it as much as I can with what I already have. It is more fun than it sounds ;)

Those are so fun! I am currently obsessed with Alo Yoga leggings.

Still jewelry....and coffee. I have a semi-industrial espresso machine and we buy coffee beans from different coffee shops that we have encountered during our travels. I love having my double cappuccino every morning (two of them!).

Tax minimization. Modeling Roth conversions in (eventual) retirement. Digital scanners for 35mm slides. I'm loads of fun.

For goodness sakes I did this yesterday.

Would you care to share my lamp obsession?

Because I’m on the spectrum I go down rabbit holes that would put Alice to shame!
Over the years Ive had a number of obsessive collections.
When young it was the coloured foil wrappers from chocolates and dead moths (dont judge). As a teenager it was make up kits, the ones where you get eyeshadows, blush, lip gloss etc in a box that opens out and timber boxes, in which other collections could be stored win win. As I got older I got more discerning and before bankrupting myself I discovered the joys of research before purchase and astute buying. In fact astute buying became a significant parameter.
I particularly enjoyed researching and shopping for secondhand musical instruments. Over the years I bought clarinets, oboes, flutes, saxophones, bass clarinets, bassoons and even piano accordions. I later on sold (at a profit) to facilitate upgrades. Currently we only have a bass clarinet (the only new bought instrument that cost as much as a small car), a clarinet, a tenor saxophone, a piano accordion and a piano. The Clarinet I still have is the 6th Clarinet I’ve bought. The instrument I am currently obsessing over the ContraBass Saxophone. A rare and expensive instrument, totally and utterly impractical to own for fun and shipping from where I might find one in the US, well over $1,000 for freight. But hey, a girl can obsess

I do love a nice lamp, tbh!

One of my first "grown-up purchases" (after the Nakamichi tape deck) was a Tizio Artemide (or is it the other way 'round?) a decade after it was first introduced. And I have fallen in love with Mission/Arts & Crafts, Deco, and Art Nouveau lamps through various national fads and personal phases and managed to own zero of those. Oh, wait, when we were choosing the lighting for our "spec" (i.e., not custom) house during a savage '90s building boom, we found an incredible all-original Deco vs. Prairie-style low chandelier salvaged out of a gut rehab in the Midwest. Back then, before this was a thing, it cost about the same as a new knock-off. One of our better decisions back then!

We had kids and focused more intensively on lamps that could survive a three-foot drop onto hardwood and then never really looked back. With the past decade, I did rescue some cool mid-century lamps from my parents house after they passed. Now we vacillate between "Better hurry up if we're ever gonna make this place look nice" and "At this point, really, why bother?"

The recent cold snap has made me obsessed with cozy. Candles, down covers, heated coats, LED fireplace. As soon as darkness hits, I watch the beautiful flickers of romantic light and settle in for a snuggle or two with the Mr.

I think cashmere sweaters right now. I bought 6 this year on deep clearance from jcrew (less than 50 bucks each). This is the first year in a while where wearing anything but very light weight cotton doesn't immediately cause a full body rash. I don't have any allergies, my doc thinks it's due to hormonal changes...

I saw some beautiful young fit ppl wearing lululemon leggings and bought a few or 6. Alas, it doesn't fit me the same and I don't see any difference from other leggings. They still roll down, slide down and creep up in uncomfortable crevices... but maybe it'll influence me to exercise. Though kinda scared it'll fall off if I squat or something.

My other obsession is 'hiding' money from myself lol. I auto allot/invest every single pay check to max out 401 and IRA and to various savings accounts or else it'll all be gone in a min. If I don't see it in my checking, I don't have it :-)

This is not an endorsement but for three straight days -- and after randomly hearing it in the car -- I can not get the song "Mexican Radio" (the original one) out of my head. Especially: "...I wish I was in Tijuana | Eating barbequed iguana..." You're welcome.

Thank you all who participated. It's very enjoyable reading about what you are currently enjoying. Besides bling that is :)

Thank you Slickk. I am looking forward to hearing about your current passion/obsessions.

I’m obsessed with decluttering my house and improving it as much as I can with what I already have. It is more fun than it sounds ;-)

OMG yes I have to get into decluttering mode yada. Can I borrow some of your energy and motivation please lol. I have so much stuff I need to go through, donate and organize and nothing but time tbh. But I cannot get motivated. Good for you and thank you for being an inspiration

Right now I'm into M.Gemi shearling lined Felize driver shoes because it's cold and they are warm!

Hope your feet stay toasty warm. I always have cold feet and cold hands (warm heart my grandma used to say) so I appreciate when you find things to keep them warm. I love those hot packs from Costco. I hold them in my hands and put them in my mittens. Keeps everything toasty warm. My dh uses them in his cycling shoes when we are cycling in cold weather.

See's Candies double caramel milk chocolates. I have 1-2 a day. They're my treat, my obsession, and something i look forward to every day.

Yummmmmmmmmmm. I cannot do dairy or girl, I would be ordering these ASAP. Enjoy :lickout:

I will check out All Yoga leggings, thank you.

They are fun I agree. I started collecting them decades ago but have slowed down the past few years until I found these. My all time favorite will always be my kitty christmas leggings though.

Last photo I have of these leggings are from 2021 but I wear them every year during the month of December

Then there are my snoopy santa leggings lol

And cannot forget my Hanukkah leggings though they are not animal leggings...sometimes I mix it up a bit LOL

Then the reindeer leggings

And my fourth of july kitty leggings

Sorry I could go on and on. I have so many of these and I still want more...hence my obsession that has remained pretty steady through the years. #animalsrock

Jewelry is a sweet blingy obsession. And coffee ahhhh. Yes two obsessions I approve of wholeheartedly. Enjoy

I am doing my level best to avoid any more obsessions. :D That said, I do still mosey through vintage jewelry sellers on IG and Etsy.

Ha. I hear you. Though I will say life is short and girl, buy those shoes, And get what you (can afford comfortably) want. We are here for such a short while. I cannot believe how fast the decades are going. When we are young it feels like we have forever but as we get older we realize damn, how did I get to be this age. LOLOL My bit of wisdom for the morning. Take it for what it is worth :)

Tax minimization. Modeling Roth conversions in (eventual) retirement. Digital scanners for 35mm slides. I'm loads of fun.

Haha you would get along with my DH. He has been through all those and many models for retirement. He says we are in good shape. We shall see. And it can be fun and satisfying when things come together

For goodness sakes I did this yesterday.

OMG we have that too...we collected so many original art deco lamps and overhead fixtures from various antique shops and one of our favorite shops that is now closed. I do not know what we will do with them all if we ever leave NYC. They cost a fortune and I am not willing to let them go. I still love them but they would not fit in with the beach house decor. These are old photos and they suck but it's all I have to share of some of our art deco lighting

Hahaha look at that ancient TV

Yes she sure can and that is part of the fun IMO. Obsess away. And music is the key to the soul. Without music life is not worthwhile. Enjoy

Love the picture you just painted in my mind. Nothing better on an cold (and wet here) day than to snuggle up with your loved one(s) and enjoy the warmth and romantic light of candles and the fireplace

That looks good. Reminds me of Cracker Jacks. I loved Cracker Jacks as a kid and I know I would love it still if I had some here to eat. Yummm

That's smart. I love "finding" things I can use when I totally forgot about them. Especially money :)
Smart to save and put away and watch it grow

My local impossible real estate market!

Ha yes. Real Estate. I remember the day I closed on my very first home. I was so happy. I thought no one can ever take this away from me. It represented security to me. Peace of mind and security. And the day I paid off the mortgage in full was a very happy day. We have bought and sold since then and I will say so far, real estate is an investment that has never disappointed. I do not know if in the future that will continue to hold true but I feel about it this way. IF I am living there and enjoying my home the investment is priceless for me. And if it is intended for our future (to live in a home we are not living at the moment)-the same.

Oh great, thanks. LOL Now it's stuck in my head! I am that impressionable (when it comes to music)

Thank you to everyone who joined in and shared. It's so much fun hearing/reading about your current "obsessions". After all life is really about enjoying the time we are here and trying to leave the world a better place. Obsession is really just being passionate about things. Things we collect. Experiences we share. People we meet along the way. Etc. Bling is what brought us all here and bling is a very enjoyable obsession. It's nice to hear about your other passions. TY

Whenever I get an earworm like that, I immediately replace it with "Back in Black" by ACDC. That usually solves the problem. Assuming you're OK with ACDC!
I really do this! Yes, I'm that weird.

I LOVE that song

I too am obsessed with vintage lighting (and plumbing) for my house. I've been buying vintage lights since 2008, for our previous house and this one, and wow how the prices have gone up! Our present house is 1903 and it's been a lot of fun to find light fixtures that work and I love enough to spend on. And like @missy, I look around, thinking when we downsize (we're in our 60s) I can't take them all, so what do I bring?

During the pandemic, we remodeled 2.5 bathrooms - they were 70s with vinyl floors, totally not the vibe of the house. One was the old servants bath, and had been ignored and neglected till the drain pipe actually rusted through and broke.

And now, most expensive of all, the kitchen. (Yikes.). For that I have, in addition to under cabinet lighting, vintage holophane overheads, and a breakfast room fixture that echoes the dining room. Presently it's a dusty construction site, so let's hope it will look as good as I imagined!
Screenshot 2024-01-28 at 09.18.28.png

Here's the breakfast room, although I switched out the opaque shades for translucent.

My pandan plant!

It survived winter after we carried it indoors and upstairs and now is pumping out mini baby plants all over the pot. I have been obsessively watching YouTube videos on how to separate and propagate these baby plants so I can give my family and friends one each as pandan is difficult to find and grow here. Being south East Asian we use it a lot in desserts. It is effectively our “vanilla.”

Oh I LOVE that! I miss the shoppe with all the amazing finds. They retired and have to see if they have anything online. I loved those guys and they had the best stuff. The shoppe was so cluttered as those antique shoppes often are and the owners were a delight. They were so knowledgeable about all their pieces.

Vintage pendant on the stair landing - part of a five-piece suite. We have a clear glass LED in it and when it's lit up it throws light through the openwork in every direction.

I love plants and used to have them all around my home when I was single but then I got cats and that put an end to that. Little imps that they are. I miss having all that beautiful greenery around...if you have a chance I would love to see a photo of your pandan plant

I have a few go-to people and the prices are --- well, let's just say they know their worth. But everything is professionally rewired and ready to go, safe for another several decades - they'll outlive me, anyway. My electrician loves working with them.

Great. Dammit.
Whoa-oooh, radio.
