Hi All,
I am in need of insurance coverage for my jewelry. I have searched the forums and some of the info I found is either not pertinent or no longer available. I used to have CHUBB, but they now require you to have house insurance along with your jewelry (and their house premiums made it not worth it).
I have very minimal coverage through home/auto (It is $25,000 total at a maximum of $5,000 per piece. Also, they replace with a "like" item).
I am looking/hoping for coverage that would just give me the cash, since I do not want the insurance company finding me a "like" item. I would hope there is some kind of "volume" discount for several pieces (but that might be counter intuitive). Also, is there a better deal for keeping your items in a fire/burglar rated home safe, bolted to concrete?
I don't like not having coverage, but it gets to that slippery slope of the premiums being so expensive that after a year or so it would have seemed better off just buying an awesome piece for the price paid in premiums.
If you don't mind sharing WHO your coverage is with and WHAT the coverage is (i.e. cash pay out versus "like" item; $100,000 coverage with max of x pieces at maximum of $xx per piece; not covered if lost; etc.) I also wanted to know if I have a brand item that is still selling in stores, would they replace it with that brand item? I especially wouldn't want the insurance company finding a like piece if the exact item is still being sold.
Thanks!
