What is this stone?

Hi,
My brother gave me a stone he brought back from Afganistan. I have no idea what it is. I''m pretty sure its not anything
expensive. Anybody got any guesses to what it is so I can learn about it?

This first picture was taken outside. The stone sort of looks washed out. Also, the stone shows a little more blue but
I couldnt get any of the pics to show the blue.

I don''t know what it is but I''m lovin'' the reddish purple color. A pendant definitely if it''s a soft stone. May have to take it to a gemologist to get it identified.

Maybe an amethyst? I''m not really sure though.

It colour shifts from purple outdoors to magenta indoors?

It looks like an amethyst to me to, but better to have it checked.
