Hi - I accidentally posted this on the Show Me The Ring...so I''m reposting here.

I''m hoping someone can tell me what this prong setting is called. I know that it''s a U-PRONG if the bottom is rounded, but what is it called if it''s flat like in the pic?

Some PS''ers have thought that it''s like a tension setting except that it''s closed at the bottom...so maybe it''s some sort of modified tension setting???

In any case, it would be great to know if it has a name.

Thanks in advance!

Maybe a floating tension modern setting is how I would describe it, not sure. Are you wanting to have a ring designed like that?

The designer can give it whatever fancy name he/she wants. If you're communicating to a bench worker I'd still call it prong-set, though I suggest showing a photo would get the idea across best.
