My girlfriend and I are having a debate about clairty. What is your stone, and what do you think of it?

Mine is a VVS2, which is so not necessary. As long as the stone is well cut you can go down in color and clarity. It''s about the cut. Although I would want my center stone to be eye clean. If I could see any inclusions, then it would bug me and I have good eyesight, but that''s just me.

Mine is VS2, and I like that....I would be okay w/anything eyeclean, though.....I have an I1 earring, and have to use the loupe to see the feather....otherwise I would never see it!

I-1 on my e-ring and my three stone anniversary ring.

I never see the inclusions.

Mine is VS2. I have a RB in a pendant that is I1 and it is hard to see the inclusions. Eye clean i suppose.

Much over VS2 IMO is over kill. I would sacrifice clarity for size, as long as the cut is great.

Mine is an SI1, I could barely make out the inclusions in the loose stone with a loupe when I was told where to look. Now that it''s set, I can''t see a thing as they''re probably covered by the bezel. I don''t really see the point of going higher than an eye-clean SI1.

Mine is SI1. Can''t see a thing wrong with it!

SI2.....completely eyeclean. (and it''s 1.25)

What do I think of it? LOVE IT.....and my first choice will always be a good SI2 stone. They just represent such great value.

Mine is SI1 also. It is totally eye clean and both my husband and I have a hard time finding the inclusion when magnified.

I had been searching for an SI1 or eye clean SI2 for budget purposes, but a VS2 came along with all of my other requirements and was the right price so I went with it. My thoughts are to go as low in clarity as you can as long as you can't see the inclusions with the naked eye. Even an I1 with an inclusion that could be hidden with a prong would have been an option for me. I just don't believe in paying for a high clarity diamond. I'd rather put my money in a good cut and sized diamond with as low a color as you can go without seeing yellow. I chose an I color as I'm not very color sensitive.

My e-ring is VS1. Hubby went looking for a diamond after reading a few books (this way before PS-- 11 years ago) and figured clarity & color were most important. I have a "good" cut diamond and it sparkles fine but doesn''t hold a candle to the ideals we''ve recently seen.

We are in the upgrade process and we both have learned so much on PS. Mainly that *cut* is #1 and clarity is not so important. I am looking at SI1s because I am looking for a bigger diamond

and I am color sensitive, too. Something''s gotta give... and that''s gonna be the one thing I can''t see.

mine is 1.19 OEC that was a VS2 when we bought it but has suffered some chips and now is an eyeclean SI2
I probably wouldn't buy anything above a SI1.

Nice clean SI 1 with excellent cut...sparkles like crazy and I''ve never seen anything in it. Out of curiosity, what are the 2 of you debating? klr

Hey - mine''s a VVS1. I don''t know what I''d do or hope for now. I like the fact that it''s as perfect as we could find in this size and this cut (an asscher/modified em cut) . It seemed fitting for an e ring. But the fact that it is a real knock out is, as ever, down to cut and we could have dropped a lot on clarity.

I''m very, very lucky since I''m going to get a rhr for my 40th, and got the engagment ring only three yrs ago so that''s a big luxury. This time I''m going for size over clarity having established unbeatable cut.

Perhaps, if I didn''t have this great gift coming up, I''d be wishing we had gone a bit bigger than 1.17 for the e ring and sacrificed clarity.

im all about size and cut of the stone. therefore i gladly sacrifice color and most importantly clarity to get a larger well-cut stone.

i had a VS stone, my husband has a VS stone. lovely. can''t find inclusions. i had an SI1 stone. lovely...couldn''t find inclusions, even with loupe. now i have an SI2 stone that has one tiny black inclusion i can see when i jam the stone up against my eye and look for it, but in real life, can''t see it and sometimes i can''t even see it with the loupe. other than that, there are alot of cloud inclusions in it that i cannot find even with the loupe!

so in reality, i love a great si1 or si2 and it really helps the budget out too. make sure most of the inclusions are white and/or all of them if you don''t want to see anything at all, but i kind oflike my little black birthmark, esp after having a bunch of stones where i can''t see anything at all...i kind of was excited to finally see SOMETHING!

SI2 pear. I can''t see a thing. Haven''t louped it, but did check it out with a magnifying glass, and still, nothing. FI looked at it unset with the loupe and couldn''t find anything either. Clean as a whistle! and he got a great deal, he tells me.

HI:

My ER is a VS1. Would certainly buy a SI1 or the "right" SI2.

cheers--Sharon

The new 0.72ct I just purchased is a totally eye clean SI1. I have a 1.5ct H/I1 that drives me nuts b/c you can see 3 carbon spots when you look straight down at it. I have had people ask me if it''s dirt!

My pear is a VS2. Can''t see anything, even with the 10X loupe, no matter how hard I try. I previously had an SI1 rb stone, which was also eyeclean (I never louped it though..didn''t have one at that time!).

Mine is an SI2. It has a feather on the side near the girdle. Unset, if you look at the diamond really close and careful, you can find it. But I consider it eye clean because at 1 foot away, you cannot see anything. And now that the stones is set, forget about it. I would rather by an eye-clean SI2 or even an almost-eye-clean I1 and spend my money on cut and color. Even a VVS diamond that is not cleaned regularly can look crappy.

I have a VS1 for my center stone. While I agree that cut is EXTREMELY important, I also have an emerald cut stone and I wanted to make sure that the step cuts need to be exceptionally clean and the lowest I was willing to go was a VS2. But that''s just my preference...

My current ering is an Si2 that is COMPLETELY eye clean. I would take color over clarity any day of the week...well not if it''s an I-2, but I can SEE color, but if I can''t see the clarity, who cares?

wife has a VS-2 & a SI-1 solitaire.a sweet spot for me would be a nice SI-1 .like Patty said, when you get to our age you don''t see inclusions w/o a loupe......LOL

IF-VVS flawlessness means "curiosity" not "quality" to me.
Those are stones after all - if one happens to be near chemical homogeneity it''s just an odd thing, a "conversation piece" since the unusual quality is by no means visible. I could undestand why this feature appeals to someone... academically.

I''d like to see the two "F" flawless stones in the vote above.

I agree with anything above VS2 is for emotional reasons, not practical ones

Mine is an SI2. It has a feather on the side near the girdle, but eyeclean! I think that people will be looking at the kitty claw prongs rather than this feather anyway.

Mine is a VS1.

I know this has nothing to do with the poll but I have another ring with si1 diamonds and they look just as beautiful and clean as my vs1 diamond. So, it doesn''t matter to me what the clarity is so long as it is eye clean.

The one i put the pennies down on was a VVS1.

Initially I was looking at IF – VS1 but the good folks here said to look down to SI1 and used the saved to go bigger… but I was on a tight thing on size… was asked to go no bigger than .4 – (½ct was pushing it) and really the 0.3 I went for just spoke to me. But there wasn’t overly too much choice at the time (I was wanting to go with Whiteflash… and they had 3 stones in that range, an ES and 2 ACAs and I preferred this one over the other which was an E VS2 for a little less… but I preferred the F VVS1 I got.)

Doing it again (which hopefully I wont be shopping for another E ring stone… ) I would look at what is available IF – SI1 simply as you never know what can come up in that range.

SI2 here and TOTALLY eye clean.

I even know where the inclusions are, but can ONLY see them with a loup (I try to find them all the time with my eye... its like a little game for me

). I think of it as stone security, a quick way to know its my diamond, esp since my cert # is half hidden by a prong.
