VVS2. Didn't have much of a choice at the time. Wanted VS2. Now, I'm kinda glad I "chose" the VVS2 stone. Turns out her family is amazing at looking at diamonds. Plus, VVS2 and up is "good luck" in their culture. And they can differentiate colors face up against a black background.
The mom can spot ideal/near ideal cut stones without an idealscope too.
Mine is an I1 but very near eye clean. The visible inclusions were able to be hidden by a prong. I hear this is rather rare and it took some time to find my diamond since I really was hesitant to purchase anything less than a SI1.
I have a SI1 center stone and I can see the inclusion with my eye. I only think I can find it because I know where it is. I wouldn''t hesitate to go SI1 but maybe I''d look for more smaller scattered inclusions.
The stone I selected for my girlfriend was a .91ct H IF. Why? Because it was the rarest stone I could afford. I then had it recut by eightstar to finish at .75ct. Why? To make it rarer. A .75ct H IF eightstar. Not bad, and totally eye-clean. Girlfriend hasn''t even seen it yet. I''d like to own it awhile before I give it away!
Original-ring stone was a VVS2. Upgraded stone is a VS2. Both are probably overkill, but I'm ok with the VS2. We felt it was the safe way to go buying sight unseen, and downgrading from a VVS2. The VVS2 is a shame, as we were sold a bill of goods. "Look at how clear this is" he kept saying about my K-L color stone that he lied about the color on. The good news is that this original off-color stone isn't traditionally well cut, but has a lot of life and sparkle and strong flour, so it's a pretty interesting stone that I now wear in a pendant.
If I were buying a substantial stone now, I would focus on an SI1, but accept the right SI2 or VS2 (for an RB -- a step cut would probably be different.)
I'm very happy with my IF, E, 0.747 although I know that I could have gotten a bigger stone for the same price.
It's really all about personal preference and self satisfaction but of course if money were no object, I would definately have gone for a F, D, 1.5 - 2. Aaa .. wouldn't that be nice?
Although I asked my boyfriend (now fiancee) to save the money and get a clean SI- he was worried it would interfere with the brillance of the diamond- he got me a VS1...which is absolutely beautiful, and I''m glad he didn''t take my advice.
I have never seen any inclusion even under a microscope... so as far as I am concerned, it''s an IF!
But seriously, when I bought my diamond a while ago, I was a little "nervous" and not as knowledgable as I (hopefully!) have become, so to me - a VS2 was a comfortable "safety zone". But... knowing what I know now, if I ever upgrade or buy another stone, I doubt it will be another VS. I could have saved a lot of money (or better yet, gotten a BIGGER stone!
) by going to an SI clarity. I personally think that (eyeclean, of course) SI stones represent the best value for the money. As long as a stone is eye-clean... who cares what its "letters" are!
1.24 vvs1.... my b/f freaked out when we missed out on an H VS2 and an I VS1 (w/in a matter of days, but at the time seemed like seconds). He thought someone would grab the I VVS1, so that''s what I have. The really cool thing is, if we ever upgrade it''s like we have some extra $ already in reserve... like I could get a 1.4 VS or something... So w/ that in mind.. I love it!
