What does it mean to have a better alignment for a round diamond?

I'm working on buying a pair of diamond stud earrings. A consultant says these first two don't have the best alignment compared to the last two. Can anyone explain why?

He says these are better:

He says I'm focusing too much on proportions, and that I need the arrows to line up. What does that mean?

whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. That is one heck of an earring budget - how exciting! I'll let someone more diamond savvy answer your Qs, but if you want to post your budget/specs wish list, we could find you something amazing!

I'm not sure other than aiming to get the width of the arrows similar (both chubby or both slender). With the one exception of the Astor stone, all the others are from a big database. But, if I was looking for 4 ctw at this price, I'd go with something like these. To get a perfect match (and super-ideal), I'd work with WF or HPD. They have the stones in their safe and can directly compare them for you. You also get a better upgrade and buyback policy. With stones this large, you really do need someone to have several in their hands to compare.

HPD has more in stock than on this website, I'd just call them directly and speak with Wink.

Omg so exciting. I can't wait to see what people here suggest for you and what pair you ultimately choose!!

He is speaking of optical symmetry like the patterning of hearts and arrows but without the pedigree that it is a hearts & arrows diamond.

I would say he is mostly speaking about marketing though and the fact that the other diamonds are not from his company.

Hearts & Arrows are not for everyone, some believe they are better and some believe the pattern is just a marketing ploy and does not affect the sparkle. Ofcourse, in the large and higher grades you are considering maybe you are interested in a branded version of hearts and arrows which other diamond vendors here have too. In fact the company you are talking with have their branded version too I think, so he is not forcing those on you.
