What do you think? Oval or no?

Hi there! I'm a long time lurker, first time poster and I would love to see some ovals!

I have a princess cut at the moment (and am very happy with it!), but I was trying to imagine what an (upgraded...maybe 2+ carats?) oval might look like in my setting. I'd love some opinions! Here's the specs on my current diamond: I, VVS2, 1.24 carats

Here's some pictures for reference:

I think an oval would look really pretty in your setting! Go for it! :appl:

I love your set, Yennyfire!

I think an E-W oval would be beautiful in that setting, especially, as it would compliment the shapes on the setting itself! But definitely check with a jeweler about putting a much larger head in that ring before you do anything.

I think with the curves of your ring and oval would look perfect! I love ovals and they look big for their carat weight (great right?)

I think ovals are gorgeous, but I agree with DS, check that your setting will accommodate a stone of that size, since that's a pretty significant difference. Good luck!!!

I think an oval would look very nice, check and make sure you can switch the head out for an oval.

I say yes! I think an oval will look even nicer in that setting than your princess (which already looks lovely) and the shape of your setting is very curvy,

Sarahbee, if you can post a picture of your setting where the ring is larger, I will Photoshop an oval in there for you.

EDIT: I ended up doing it with the one you posted above. I made the oval completely cover your princess, but left the prongs exposed. I think the roundness of the setting really complements an oval diamond.

Thanks mom2boys! Pregcurious, what an awesome photoshop job! That will be one gorgeous ring1

pregcurious: Thank you SO much for doing that! It is so much easier to visualize what an oval would really look like in my setting... and I LOVE it!

I'm thinking that an oval is a must (when we have the funds to update the stone ;)), but I'll check with the jeweler to make sure it is possible before getting my hopes up too high!

No problem. If you give the proportions of the ovals you are looking at down the road, I can Photoshop in different ovals based on length/width. The easiest way for me to do this is if you take a picture of your setting (face up) next to a ruler with millimeter markings. I can use the ruler as a reference. for the ovals I create.

I myself am an oval lover :)

I had a jeweler build a completely new head for my ering in my avatar, and they welded it into my shank and removed the previous "peg" head. I hope you will be able to put an oval into your setting, but if your jeweler says no, come back and we may be able to find you one who can do it.

I prefer your that setting with the princess.

pregcurious - you are a WHIZ! with photo shop!!! What a talent you have

Sarahbee - I think an E/W oval would be devine in your existing setting but as mentioned many times above, check out with your jeweller if a new head can be changed up to suit a new oval stone. It sure would be "be -ooOOoo- tiful" ! I love the soft flow of your existing setting and the oval diamond would compliment it so perfectly.

I agree, I think that the oval will look gorgeous in your setting, and what a subastantial size difference you will see. Princess cuts tend to face up smaller than most others and ovals look so much bigger than others, so increasing .75 ct and changing the shape....wow

I think your setting would be gorgeous with an oval! I just received an oval for Christmas and the finger coverage is awesome! I can't wait to see what you decide!

Thank you for all of your opinions! I talked to the husband and he too agrees that an oval would look stunning in the setting!

For now, we're working on some custom wedding bands that fit with the setting, then we'll look at upgrading the diamond (if possible!)

yay!

Oh my, what a great photoshop pic. I think an oval would be amazing in your setting.

I think an oval would look amazing, dooooooo it! :naughty:

I like you setting with the princess but I also think it would look lovely with an oval upgrade. Could you post some profile shots of your ring so we can see the prongs and how the head is set. If its a peg head you can easily replace it with one that will fit your stone, if the head is integrated it will be more difficult.

I'm an oval fan and I think your setting is totally suited for one! But, the princess looks pretty in there, too :)
