Yes, I've done pictures that way. I've actually gotten pretty good at taking these photos, I just stopped posting them because we don't have any information from AGS about interpreting the results. I took this one a few weeks ago when I was trying various different techniques and I just HAD to photo this stone. It's not as bad a picture as you think. What's throwing you off is that it has a 46 degree crown angle (among other serious problems). I no longer have the stone in hand to take a better picture.
I've even become moderately practiced at building the wireframe diagrams and, yes, this one is hard.
