Stone 1 -

.
It''s almost 0.2mm smaller than it should be, thanks in part to that girdle... crown and pavilion are on the edge, too.

Stone 2 - Better balance. Need images to confirm performance, but from the numbers I wouldn''t anticipate problems. I would confirm that the central cloud and the "additional clouds not shown" won''t be issues, esp. since it''s an SI2.

Ok.......thanks for your reply. I'm new to all of this and really want to learn all that i can. So when you say Stone 1 is .2mm smaller than it should be, what are you basing that on and so then what should it be? Also, what exactly don't you like about the crown and pavilion?

For Stone 2 you mention "central cloud and the "additional clouds not shown." Can you please elaborate.......what do you mean? Your help is greatly appreciated and will help me make an informed decision.

Thanks so much - Rick

I'm no expert, but my 2c:

A 1ct ideal should face up about 6.45mm - the excessive depth (partly caused by the overly thick girdle) is the main cause.

The pavilion - 40.8 - is an avg of eight values, so some will be greater than that (pavilion is rounded to 0.2, and odd tenths are rounded up). Crown is rounded to 0.5, so again, some will be greater. For a 35.5 crown I like a 40.6 pavilion, 40.8 would be fine too, but 41, say, may well show leakage. The best way to know for sure if you have a good performer is with an idealscope image - you can call JA and request one. This stone could certainly be a beauty, but it may not be - much like most stones, really

Grade-making clouds can be problems in a few SI2s. Again, you can call JA and they'll tell you one way or another.

Hi All-

New to the forum. I''ve been looking for diamond studs, 2 CTW, for my wife''s b-day in Jan and my budget is ~ $6.5K. Found these on JA site. What do y''all think? Your input is much appreciated. Look forward to your feedback.

Hi Rick

First diamond is too deep and that is also influencing the face up size, it isn''t the best cut stone also.

The second is better but still a bit deep, also with the clouds the important thing here is the grade setting cloud drawn on the clarity plot. These can sometimes make the stone look dull in SI clarity grades, the comment " additional clouds not shown" isn''t normally the issue unless the clarity grade is said to be based on those, it is the ones marked on the map that are significant.

Thanks so much yssie and Lorelei. Your comments have been very helpful and are really helping with my search. Found this pair on WF. These are much better - what do you guys think?

I agree with yssie, first one shows definite leakage, second diamond looks good though. That is also a good suggestion to ask WF to match you a pair.
