Hey PSers, here i have pictures of 11 fancy yellow diamonds side by side. I would love to see your opinions. I know a lot PSers here are really good at looking/picking fancy color diamonds. i would love to learn that skill. i think i can start from this post

of the 11 stones,
#4 is fancy yellow
#2,6,9 are fancy light yellow
all the others are fancy intense yellow

Here is my opinion. i'd love you to correct me if any is wrong. as i said, this is a great learning opportunity for me!
my fav is #1. great color, very good spread. i expect it to have nice sparkle as well. only "down" side is it's the smallest of all.

i think #2 is a great color for a FLY. the color is also evenly spread out.

#5 has strongest color. but i wonder if the tone is a little on the dark side? i mean, if you look at #1 or 3, they have more bright yellow tone that is more pleasing to my eyes.

#3 and 7 got nice color. but too much leakage.

#8: what do you think of the color and leakage of it?

#4 has nice color and spread out pretty good as a FY. but i feel the color is not even. it seems the color on the left side is lighter then the right side. is this just an angle issue?

what do you think of the stones? which stone is the winner in its own intensity level in your opinion? i especially want to hear about your thoughts about #1, 2, 5, and 8!

i am looking forward to hearing from you! any input appreciated!

Pics are too small to see detail so it's difficult to comment.

So first, I prefer the top row to the bottom row...so really its about picking between the stones in the top row.

From what I can tell from the color and cut (which cut is hard to tell from these pictures) I think I like 2 best, but I'm inclined to prefer stones on the lighter side.

I agree with your opinions on number 5

I think, depending on cut, any of the first 4 are nice options. I assume sense most of the are cushions, I'd eliminate the oval.

Eta try not to worry about "smallest" . if you like one best then I think you should go that route. She won't be comparing her ring to 10 other rings. ;)

If I were given the choice, I prefer radiants to cushions personally. I like the straight edges. So with that said it's between 7 and 8 for me. The "leakage / windows" on those stones don't bother me at all. In fact it's very minimal compared to a lot of cushions. You're not going to look at your stone in a plastic box. The stone will be set in a piece of jewelry. And it'll sparkle like crazy! So back to #7 and #8, I prefer #7 because it's bigger and has stronger color. My 2 cents...

P.S. Although I prefer step cuts myself. Hahahah!

PS, you should post questions about Fancy Colored Diamonds in Colored-Stones.

My eye went right to #1

The only one that's attractive to me is #3.

Thank you everyone for the input! it is interesting to see everyone has a different preference and the reason for that pick! that is quite some learning for me!

acebruin's response actually popped out an interesting question: how much would a setting help to enhance the look of a yellow diamond? i can tell the leakage right away from online pictures. but i know most of these pictures are magnified version of the rings, and i wonder how obvious it will be in real life? i dont see a lot color diamond rings in real life. so anyone can help with this question?

Thanks again for all the input! i am looking forward to seeing more!

Off the bat, I would choose #1. However, if I know more details such as the price, the mm size, ct weight and etc, I might pick differently because I would then apply a different selection criteria in order to fit my budget. I would pick 3 or so, then do a video comparison (3 stones together in a single video). The current pictures are too small to make any in-depth comments about the cut.

A setting can help enhance yellows greatly. For example, an enclosed cup can easily increase the apparent colour grade by 1 or more, depending on the design and stone itself. That said, I dislike cups because they make it difficult to keep clean, even if one uses an ultrasonic.

Hi,

Are the black dots inclusions? #5 looks very included. I would eliminate that one. You want the stones to be eyeclean. I can't tell which are .
