Hello All,

I got to view this stone today. Tons of fire and brillance, eye clean and could not believe it was an I. Just wanted to get your expert opionions on here.
Also, I entered the info into the HCA and don''t think these are the "best" results..thoughts? (Attached results)
Sorry, I didn''t take any pictures!

Hi angel,

I know nothing about these really, except they''re cut a bit different than a regular round. So I''m not even sure running it through the HCA is fair to it. GOG has 4 listed, and their tables ran from like 52.8-56. If you pull the Helium reports up, it will show the crown and pavillion angles, they''re not listed on the main page. I''d just try and compare yours to those. Other than that, I''m affraid I can''t help.

One question though, did you love it?

Hi Ellen,

Thanks,I will check those out!

Yes, I did love it. That''s all that matters right? That''s what you are going to tell me isn''t it?

I agree with Ellen. I think the HCA is for traditional round brilliants. We'd love to see pictures of your stone if you get it! We don't get to see these often!

Thank you Ellen..I knew where you were going with that..

Diamondseeker/Ellen - I never thought that the HCA wouldn''t "apply" for the Eighternity..ok maybe I''ll scrap that as a tool....
I wish I had taken pictures!

BF has barred me from ever going back to the store since it''s in his hands to make the decision now..I think the SA is on my side..she''ll let me sneak in and take another peek!

lol If you love it, that really is all that matters! (Of course, if you can sneak one more peak to make sure, I don''t think that would hurt. But then no more!)

And yer welcome.

Very good to know, thank you strmrdr. Hmm, I''ve never heard of a fancy round. Learning something new everyday!

Hi Angel,

Read your post and thought I'd chime in. I am very familiar with certain modified rounds like Eighternity's as we also feature 2 other modified rounds as well besides 2 flavors of H&A 57 facet types. We have many people who enjoy the appearance of an Eighternity even over H&A's. It really depends on the individual and your own individual taste. They offer a great mix of pin fire and broad flash in your spot lighting and beautiful brightness with a different contrast pattern to be observed in diffuse lighting that either appeals to you or not.

When doing a general presentation on round brilliant cuts and the individual has indicated they are not set on a particular cutting style I'll show them all varieties and let them pick for themselves although I do emphasize the most common lighting they'll be in most times (which is generally diffuse of some type, typically office lighting). In jewelry stores you generally do not get to see the diffuse lighting view as 99% of jewelry stores feature spot lighting only. My only suggestion would be for you to compare it to a very well cut 57 facet type in that lighting before you pull the final trigger to be 100% certain.

Kind regards,

Rhino - Thank you very much. I did see the stone in the store lighting (which even a poorly cut stone shines in) and outside (cloudy day) but I guess didn''t really view it in office lighting. What is the best way I can achieve that (office lighting) when visiting the store?

I checked out your video comparing the 3.0 vs the 2.68 and the Eighternity!

Actually if you''ve had the opportunity to view it in the natural environment of "outside on a cloudy day" then you''ve got the best perspective of brightness in the most natural conditions and IMO you''ve seen it in sufficient enough lighting to make your determination.

Diffuse lighting emphasizes and demonstrates "brightness" and what GIA defines as "patterned scintillation" (the pattern being of the observation of both bright and dark reflections in the diamond, which AGS simply calls "contrast") while in spot lighting you can best observe "fire" and the type of scintillation that is more accurately defined as "sparkle".

Office lighting (depending on the strength of the lighting) can sometimes give a view that falls in between the "outside on a cloudy day" view and the "strong spot lighting view" as it''ll feature the sparkle pattern (at least in my office) that more closely resembles spot lighting, yet not strong enough to produce fire. Kinda tough to put into words but if you view the video I''ve done on "The Assessment of Brightness" you''ll see footage taken in each of those environments and how the cloudy day view differs from office lighting.

When I shot that video it was in my beginning stages of doing this so the resolution may not appear as sharp as some of my more recent work but you can still see the differences. Either way ... both outside on a cloudy day and office lighting both show views to "brightness", yet of a different nature but if you''ve seen it in both the spot and diffuse then you should be fine. Most folks only see them in one lighting (spot) as typically found in jewelry stores.

In any case, all the best to you Angel and thank you for the kind words regarding our work and efforts. I really appreciate it and hope they have been of some benefit to you in your quest.

Kind regards,
