Hello all!

This is my first post, but as lots of other people say..."I have been lurking for months!" This is such a great community of people and very informative.

I'm American but I'm currently living in Spain. I've been dating my boyfriend, who is Spanish, for about 5 years and we've started looking at rings. The only problem is that here in Spain, the girls don't typically get erings and if they do get a ring, it is usually a really simple gold solitare setting and a very small diamond. This has made it imposible for me to see, touch, feel, TRY ON rings that are similar to what I want! This is why we wanted to purchase from an online vendor, but i'm having a horrible time choosing my setting.

I want a platinum band that is neither too delicate nor thick. I definitely am into the "matchy" thing so I want matching wedding band that can fit FLUSH! Also, I'm not a fan of having the diamond set up high, so something relatively low. Also, I don't know the terminology for this...but I like straight edges, smooth lines. :)

Okay, so right now I'm trying to decide between a Precision Set setting and the Whiteflash "Sleek Line Pave." I like the Precision Set because the diamonds go almost all the way around the band, I love the milgrain and I could order it through GOG and get my diamond with them. They seem like great people to work with. I am NOT convinced that I like the profile view of this setting. Is it too chunky? Too much metal? Seeing as though I haven't found anything in Spain similar to try on, I don't know if I'm over analyzing the side view when in reality it won't stand out so much when worn. Would this be considered a "high set diamond?" It's so hard to tell without having it on my finger!!

Any comments or opinions regarding this setting would be SO appreciated!!! I know it boils down to personal taste but I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'm going to try to attach pics of the precision set ring...tell me what you think of the profile! :)

Thanks so much in advance,

Lucie

I love the first setting. I''m really a fan of more curved profiles as opposed to the straighter tiffany style. I think they look so elegant.

I think you''re going to have to make a compromise on either a low set stone or a flush band. From my knowledge of rings, the lower your stone the less likely you will be to find a setting and band that will fit flush together, that is unless you''re interested in a curved band. If someone knows of settings that don''t follow this thought please post. And no I don''t think any of those rings look chunky at all, theyre all very delicate and pretty.

IMO, the Precision Set settings are overpriced, and you can get excellent workmanship at Whiteflash. If there''s something that you don''t love about a stock WF setting, they can tweak it until it''s customized to your specifications.

Hi Lucie! Welcome to PS.

The Precision Set setting is very pretty, but I can understand your hesitance about the profile. Have you asked Whiteflash if they can modify the Sleek Line to add more pave around the band as well as milgrain? Another setting of WF''s you might consider is the Legato with pave- it''s clean- lined, and I believe it has a matching wedding band.

Don''t settle for a setting you like ''for the most part.'' Hold out until you find one you''re totally happy with. :)

Ditto. I almost fainted when I saw the price tag on the Precision Set rings I was trying on. For way less you could get exactly what you want in custom from WF. Or even get Leon Mege to make you something for what the precision set will probably cost you.

Is there anywhere else in Europe that you can daytrip to or take a weekend to try on rings? Rings can be like clothing, look great on the rack, but not so good on you.

I know big rocks/intricate settings are not the norm in Europe, but somebody has to have them. Even if you have to look at really highend jewelry stores.

First of all,

Thanks for your opinions! Just to clarify...all of the pictures I posted were of the Precision Set ring.

Callisto: Yes..I was afraid that I might have to sacrifice either low set or flush...that's one of the things that is making my search so hard!

Vespergirl: I thought about having a ring customized but I told myself I was being too picky! I thought surely there is a ring out there that already exists without me having to have something customized. I'm starting to think you are right and I have just sent an email to Whiteflash to find out about adding more pave and milgrain. I like the profile much better. I just hope the price doesn't shoot up because of having it customized.

Ebree: I have been looking at this ring for a few weeks and the profile has been bothering me. You are right...I shouldn't choose something I'm not completely happy with. By the way..thanks for the suggestion of the Legato with pave, but it's a bit too thin for what I wanted and I'm not a fan of the prongs on that one. I'm being so picky!

I think i'm going on to the Whiteflash Sleek Line pave. Do you think this type of setting would allow for a band to sit flush?

Thanks so much!

dreamer_daschie posted a photo of it with its matching band not too long ago, and it looks like it sits very close but not *quite* flush:

And a photo of it with milgrain (custom for PSer rcrosier):

I hope this helps somewhat!

Yes...Ponder you are right. I should probably search a little harder because the more intricate settings have to be around here somewhere!

EBree, thanks so much for posting those pics. You''ve been really helpful. Now I''ll just wait to hear back from Whiteflash for a price quote. It''s crazy, earlier today when I wrote my first post I was leaning towards the Precision Set, but now I know that is not what I want! I think the profile was bothering me and I just needed to hear from some other people for some reason!

Thanks again.

Lucie

Lucie, the Sleek Line is a nice ring but it won't sit totally flush because of the 'donut' that the diamond's basket is mounted on.
