I love warm cinnamon scented candles, pumpkin spice ice cream, turning on my tiny space heater, scoping out holiday presents, and getting cozy to watch a movie. What do you love about fall?

Colder, cleaner air.

The sunlight looks more beautiful.

Everything! The smell of fall, the colder temps, being able to wear my "uniform" of jeans, t-shirt and hoodie, hot chocolate, fall colors, pumpkins, cinnamon, getting cozy under a blanket with a book. Love it all!

Fall is my favorite season. I love the changing of the leaves which is hardly-to-rare in Texas, temperatures that are just nippy enough to wear a sweater but not a jacket, inhaling and having the air just slightly burn the inside of your nose due to its crispness, wearing scarves and long sleeve tshirts and blue jeans, football, warm lattes, soups and stews and hot crispy bread, lighting the fireplace just because, and spending time outside since it's no longer 100+ degrees!

Fall is my fav time of year!
leaves turning colors [yes, there a re places where this happens in California!]
warm shorts weather days.
cold light the wood burning stove nights.
PUMPKIN ICE CREAM!
and those are only a few of my fav things.............
love Fall/Winter foods as well.

I love getting to wear boots and scarves, and cute light jackets. I love the leaves changing all over the mountains, it makes for beautiful drives and especially paddles. I love that it isn't crazy hot anymore (though I love summer more than any season).

Fresh California chestnuts... :lickout:

Weather! After months of nothing but blue skies, it's nice to see clouds!

Harvesting the last of the garden's growth.
Saving seeds.
Tearing down the tomato vines.
Slow-roasting peppers and tomatoes.
Our annual pumpkin-carving party.
Holding friends and family near around a backyard fire.
The innate desire to keep everyone safe and warm.

10. The leaves
9. It's not so bloody hot
8. Sweaters
7. Heavy warm blankets
6. No more mosquitoes
5. Thanksgiving
4. Carving pumpkins
3. Cold wet days where it's "acceptable" to sit at home under a blanket in sweats :D
2. Halloween!

1. It's almost winter!

SEC Football! WAR EAGLE!!! . :appl: =)

The red/orange leaves that color the landscape.

The light is so different and beautiful in autumn. Also there are spectacular low sun hues and brightly colored sunrises and sunsets due to the cleaner air this time of year.

The amazing reds, yellows, oranges and browns in leaves!
Clear, cool air.
Stars are visible again. (I live in Finland and during the summer days are long and nights are pretty light too so no stars.)

I also like the rainy days because I have a new pair of wellies which I get to use.

Indy, there is a local ice cream maker that I think beats Double Rainbow: Mission Hill.

for a list of where to buy in California: http://www.missionhillcreamery.com/find-us/

met the guy at one of those "dinner in the field" type of events two weeks ago....nice guy! he's talking about opening a shop in SF!

but i'll never turn down a Double Rainbow!

Oh, yes, SCARVES!!! I love them and already bought two new ones for the season.

I also love various holiday scented candles, decorating with cinnamon pine cones, and the pretty colored leaves on all the trees.

Leather jackets, riding pants and riding boots :)) It is my outfit of choice. I'm almost embarrased to say how many different variations I have of that outfit. but the point is that you can only really get away with it in the fall. :((

Thanksgiving and Halloween--two of my favorite holidays! Also, the weather is nice; I get sick of the summer heat.

Cooler air and the way things smell outside. I know it sounds corny but the air smells different with the leaves falling and changing.

Clear brilliant blue skies w the fiery contrast of the maple leaves --- and the smell of pine needles that have fallen. Ah... sleeping w the window open a crack, so its just cool enough to really snuggle under a nice fluffy duvet...ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzz. Makes for the best nights sleep!!

What I hate - is knowing winter/snow/ice/freezing -30C temps are just around the corner... shudder!! Every year we say we are moving to Arizona. Every year we do nothing. (Not that we'd ever do it, but we talk a good story! HAHA!!)

This is what fall looks like at my house:

What a great thread!

I love the cool air on my face and in my home after the suffocating heat of the summer. I love getting new shoes and maybe some new clothes for the fall. I love Halloween and the pumpkins, the straw, the rituals. There is hardly anything I don't love about fall. I am not a fan of the summer at all, and fall is a huge relief to me. Makes me think of new beginnings and fresh pencils. I always think again about my ambitions and where I want to go in the next year. I find September and October to be nothing less than a kind of re-birth. Spring is supposed to be the magical season with the bringing of new life, but it passes me by. Autumn is my season. It must be my pagan heritage! (My area of England is steeped in pagan history and my family have been there for hundreds of years. I am so going up the road to Salem for Halloween this year.)

Yesterday, we had a perfect day out. We hired a car and drove into New Hampshire to look at the leaves. My American niece lives there, as did my father-in-law. He passed away many years before I met my husband, but when we go to NH for the day, we always drive by the old family house, which is gorgeous. Anyway, yesterday we saw it was up for the sale, so my husband knocked on the door, and the lady inside greeted us with open arms and showed us the whole house! It's this rambling, writerly house with a secret staircase and so many nooks and crannies, it was just perfect. I never thought I'd see the house where my husband grew up, and now I have.

And, we went to the gun show in Manchester, NH, for a laugh. I have never seen a gun (not allowed in England) so my eyes were out on stalks. I kept relating the prices to jewellery. Basically, you could have a lovely pair of Blue Nile earrings for the price of a shotgun. I know which I'd rather have!

We did some shopping and came home. At 11pm I was in my pyjamas and dressing gown, doing my new elaborate skincare routine, when the fire alarm went off. My first instinct was to ignore it, but then I shook myself into sense, and my husband and I scarpered down the fire exit staircase. As soon as we opened our apartment door, we could smell the smoke. It got stronger as we got closer to the ground. We were grateful to reach the street, and four fire engines and an ambulance turned up. In the basement, there is a poor lady who is a terrible alcoholic. She ricochets off the walls sometimes, so drunk she can barely stand, and I see her coming back from the 7-11 in the morning with a paper bag. She is clearly very ill with this addiction, and I have always felt sorry for her. She had some food cooking, and had passed out with the drink so it caught fire. She was taken away in an ambulance with smoke inhalation. I do hope she's OK. I would have gone with her in the ambulance had I not been standing on the street in my pyjamas, robe, and slippers!! We are the top floor - sixth - and she is in the basement, yet the smoke permeated the whole building. It still smells a bit this morning. So glad it wasn't any worse.

So anyway, bit of an eventful day yesterday!!!

Edit: Another thing about fall - I bought three new shades of Essie nail polish yesterday in warm, autumnal shades. I'm good at savouring life's little pleasures!

Enerchi - your house is SO beautiful!!!

I LOVE fall, definitely my favorite time of the year!

The leaves changing colors.
Going to the cider mill and pigging out on fresh cider and donuts.
Pumpkin spice lattes.
My birthday!
Cool, fresh air (by this time of the year I am SO tired of Michigan humidity).
Cozy sweaters, jeans, and boots.
Halloween, Thanksgiving, and pumpkins.

Enerchi - your house is BEAUTIFUL

Yesterday we went to Covered Bridge Festival. I haven't been since college, and it was so fun to tour the countryside with my husband (who is from the east coast) and daughter. There are 31 covered bridges on the tour, but we only stopped at 4 (passed several more) since toddlers aren't very patient with being moved from carseat to stroller to carseat more than a few times.

Forgot to add... I love that sunsets from our balcony look like this. And usually the sunsets during fall last so long that I'll have plenty of time to enjoy it! Unfortunately the pics don't do any justice to the amazing reds, yellows, pinks, oranges and violets in the trees and in the sky.

Enerchi, you have a lovely house! :)

I hope you guys don't mind me asking what's in pumpkin spice? :D Not an American so no spice(s) come to mind for that purpose... cinnamon, maybe?

My goodness, I am absolutely loving the pictures!! I'll have to snap one too :appl:

MZ--I will definitely scope out Mission Hill! Thank you for the list of retailers too--there's one relatively close by, so I'll have to try it and report back. Sounds delicious :lickout:

The best thing about fall is getting back up.

I mean, when you are on the ground everything feels so wrong.
It's embarrassing too.
People wonder if you are drunk.
After you get up and dust yourself off you can get on with your life. :appl:

Chili! Which is on the stove right now. Get in my belly!!! :lickout:

I love the cool, crisp air.
I love the sounds of the birds in that air.
I love the sunlight, especially in the evening.
I love opening our windows.
I love cinnamon, and pumpkin. Their smells and tastes.
I love the colors.
I love Halloween.
I love having soups, and making soups.
