What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid for?

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Glad it's resolved in your favor.

Ok so update:

SK has offered to remake it for free in my choice of pave, but since I continue to have these issues I must decide what to remake it to. He will not advise because he thinks there is nothing wrong with it. He did see the video and said on certain fabrics it will do that, but as I said I tested the Tiffany styles on exact same fabric at exact same time to have a fair comparison.
The safest would be brightcut/bead set, but I really do not love that style at all.
I sent a bunch of the tiffany pics, because it looks like fishtail, but he originally told me this would snag more.
But nobody else is having these issues! Argh! I am wondering if the "less metal look" is what the issue is.....
Anyway, he is being accommodating by agreeing to redo it, I just need to decide what style, then it will be my tough luck if there sre issues after and I think that is fair.
The tiffany metro pic is the one I sent him Charmypoo. Hoping he can do that.
Oops forgot to answer this: nope no other issues whatsoever, other than snagging. :)

I just got a follow up email saying I am being over dramatic and that he knows it is smooth and that I should get video of the tiffany one because he does not believe it will be smooth. Wow rude!

Trying to show pics of it snagging.
Am I exaggerating? I have a video too but it will not let me post.

I dont doubt you are experiencing snagging but this does seem a little ubelievable. I have pave from many sources: Van Cleef, Cartier, LM, McTiegue & Mclelland and vintage. It will all snag here and there. If you "make" some thing snag by rubbing it against almost any fabric but the very tightest and flattest of weave that is not a typical scenario. You do seem to be an outlier for whatever the reason. Perhaps you should consider channel set?

Unbelievable as it may sound, i am indeed experiencing it. Sales person also could not believe how bad it was.
And yes I would agree the occasional snag is ok. I am running it over fabric to illustrate this. How else could I prove my point?

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Channel setting is very smooth. Another choice would be tiny bezels for each diamond with no millgrain or rough surface treatment.
The existing ring could be tinned down to the minimum and outer walls applied to it to rise over the snagging tips and make it sort of a channel look, but still low prong set type. (Wow, your video is very convincing!)

It seem incredible to me that your ring is doing something that others just like it generally do not do. I think your vendor has given you a great offer to remake the ring, but you surely could not hurt it to make sure it could not be properly smoothed out first, especially if you like the current style of setting. Removing the diamonds to make a replacement ring will ruin the existing mounting, so a last attempt at making it smooth would not be a problem. You might still give that a try since you have an alternative in reserve.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

It's such a shame that you can't wear it because it's a beautiful ring. I can see how much it is snagging and it must be very annoying. Is it the metal that is catching or the diamonds? Are the girdles on diamonds rough or smooth? Does the snagging happen all the way round the ring or just one area? I was wondering if there could be a small chip on one of the stones and that's what's causing the snagging.

I believe you but you appear to be pushing the band quite vigorously into the fabric based on the indentations that show as you push the band. I think almost anything will snag under those circumstances.

No it may appear that way but i swear it does this all the time.
It is not the diamonds. It is the metal and it does do it all around.
Anyway, these videos are for illustration purposes to give you an idea if what is happening on a daily basis.

I was thinking the same thing. Yes, the ring is snagging, but you're deliberately pushing it into the fabrics, so the concern becomes less legitimate in my opinion. I have pave and I just don't see this as being a concern. I'm sure that my pave has potential to snag, but the opportunities to do so are fairly limited. My hands/rings are not typically in a position (for example, arms crossed where hands/rings would be touching my shirt, etc.) to snag on a regular basis. I'm not saying that your concern doesn't exist, but after seeing the videos, it does appear to be under special circumstances (like rubbing/smashing the ring onto different fabrics).
Anyways, best of luck on your concerns - I hope that you can get your issue resolved. It's a pretty ring:)

Yes I understand what you are saying, but as I pointed out earlier, this is for demo purposes only. Unless I tape my ring in day to day life, I cannot demonstrate what i mean. Also, please keep in mind i did the EXACT same thing with tiffany pave amd it did not do that at all. I cannot take video of that so unfortunately I cannot show you a comparison.
Anyway, thank you all for your input.
