What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid for?

Hi

What do you do when you have paid a few times for a ring and still hate it?
I cannot wear it at all. Do you ask for money back? I was assured this time the issue would be corrected.
Do you ask for it to be changed (although apparently nothing can be done)?
Just trying to get freedback on what should be done.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

I am so sorry you have to go through this.

If it is an off the shelf ring, you mostly have 8-30 to change your mind. You will get your money back or receive a store credit. It will be more difficult if the ring is altered (sized) for you.

If the ring is custom made for you, then it's a different situation:
- if the ring was made according to your requirements, then there is not much you can do. If the jeweller is willing to do so, he/she can take the ring back for his own collection but the jeweller is not obliged to do so.
-if the ring has faults or was not made according to requirements/written work order then the jeweller is obliged to solve the problem. There are no real guarantees here. For example if the jeweller is simple not skilled enough to make certain details.

Perhaps you should give us more information on what your situation is. We can advice you better then. Could you also post a pic.

Can you just move your center to a plain solitaire and then try again later. Sorry it's been a struggle!

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Hi,

My ring is a beautiful handmade pave band, but I cannot wear it because it continues to snag and ruin my clothes.
This is why I had it fixed and remade to begin with. I was assured it would not donthis once remade, but it still does indeed.
I have had others try it as well and they all said "yup it snags".
I just posted another thread about snagging issues the other day.
I feel like it should be remade into something that will not do this. So many ppl have pave that does not do this.
This ring is from one of the best pave experts, but I can feel the snags, I can see them, and so can others so I know I have not lost my mind yet. I am by no means insulting the creator, this must be how this style just is. BUT I want it fixed!

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

I now remember. You had a ring made by SK and the pave was snagging on your clothes...
So sorry that this has not been resolved. Your best bet might indeed be to choose a 3/4 pave ring, a channel set ring or perhaps try at another vendor. As far as I can see, none of the Victor Canera pave rings snag.

I hope you find a good solution. SK is very friendly and professional I heard and he is a good customer service. What does he advice you to do?

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Have you demonstrated to the vendor that it still snags? If so, then I don't see why you would be obligated to keep it, esp if that is why he recreated it for you. I have a stock eternity ring in your exact style and it does not snag but I always put my clothes on before my rings and take off my rings when I get home.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Send it back to SK and ask him to test it on clothes. I'm sure he's reasonable. Hope it gets resolved soon.

Btw, did you pay the full price - price of melees when you remade it or did you get a discount? Did you have an instruction about no snagging on the new work order?

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Hi
He said he did test it and found no flaws. But everyone I have shown it to agrees with me. I guess I could go in person, but I live far away so that would cost a lot as well.
When i had it remade he reused my melee so i paid for labor only which was still about half the price of the ring.
I am awaiting his response as I simply cannot wear it. I am getting snags everywhere even when being extremely careful. Yes the purpose of remake was due to snags and I have several emails saying it would NOT do this once remade.
I hoping for a resolution because I really love the ring otherwise.

I'm sorry.. I forgot this was a pave band...

Maybe you can share with him the material type of your clothes so that he can test it on similar material? I hope this gets resolved soon.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

It is just so strange because I have multiple SK pave rings (including the new one I got) and none of them snag. And yours was made twice too so I think it could be the pave type or something. I suggest you just sell the ring and go with someone else. If SK has remade it twice, I am not sure a third / fourth time with him will make a difference.

I know! I thought of you actually! Same pave type you have on your Leon ring and Sk band. This may sound stupid but i have no idea how to do sale transactions safely etc. I thought of that as well!
Also what would be a fair price?

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Can he remake it in a different pave type maybe? Maybe you're not cut out for pave? Is this particular one matching your engagement ring? Does that snag? I had tons of snagging issues with my prong set micropave rings too, but none were made by the "big three", SK, LM or VC, so I can't compare. I went to a channel set from Tiffany and have none of the snagging. It wasn't the look I really wanted but the lack of snagging was what ultimately made that choice.

I have no ering. I wear it alone or stacked. It is just so strange since nobody else complains about it.
We shall see what he says.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Honestly I don't think you could put no snagging on a work order????

If he already remade it I wouldn't bother doing it a 3rd time that is just a waste of money. My LM pave ring snags on some stuff but I'm sort of hard on my rings to begin with. Perhaps you just need to forget about pave an stick with something safe.

And I wouldn't expect a refund. You pay that amount for hand forged for a reason. Because it is labor intensive as you saw with the costs when you redid the ring.

I would sell at 20% off the current selling price on LT or DB. The money you spent on the redo I highly doubt you will recoop as somone can get a new one for cheaper vs the price you paid for the orginal ring and redo.

He guaranteed it would NOT snag so in my opinion it should be fixed at no cost to me.
I was just trying some other pave at Tiffany that did not snag, but that was on an ering.
If you tell someone it will be fixed, make them pay and then it is not fixed, then you should be willing to fix it an make it right.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

I have a marquis eternity band and it snags. I have been wearing it for 26 years and so be the snagging. Sorry you had to redo it. I think it is the nature of the eternity prong.....

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

You might want to stick to beadset, like my Tiffany Legacy band, for example. Those along with channel set (as Ame mentioned) cannot snag.

You might list it at 20-25% off, but realistically, I would expect to get 50-65% of the cost of a new one if you sell. You can list on Loupe Troop and then post a thread in the Pre-loved forum here with the link, pictures, and details about the band.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

If you wore it with two bands on either side that were higher than your pave band might that prevent the ring coming into contact with material.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

When is your ring snagging? I was just trying to think when that could happen. I don't put on my rings until I am dressed in the morning and I take them off before I undress. So my rings almost never come in contact with my clothes in a way that that they could snag.

I was wondering this as well and am glad that someone asked! I have a ring that snags and have a small run in my wedding dress to prove it. Knowing that my antique wedding ring snags I make sure not to run my hands down my stomach to smooth my wedding dress on a regular basis :) Joking aside, I do what DS said, last thing on, first thing off. No problems other than on my wedding day.

I have one ring that SK refabed for me. The pave type is u-cut and it was scratchy when I first got it ... after wearing it a few times, the metal smoothed out and it isn't scratchy anymore. It never snagged clothes though. My band which is the same as yours has zero problems. Always so smooth and comfortable. The new ring is a different pave type so it isn't scratchy at all.

The only thing I can think of is your melee being different but that doesn't make any sense. Diamonds are diamonds unless they have some wicked rigged girdle or something that is catching on. It just seems very strange.

What size is your ring?

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

I just took a bunch of my SK, LM, and Maytal Hannah u-cut and v-cut pave rings and rolled them along a bunch of different fabrics. None of them catches on anything but maybe I am less sensitive. My LM band is the same as yours. I have never see any hairs or stuff stuck in the pave prongs (in the center diamond prongs yes). I didn't try any sweaters or anything as I don't have one handy.

I am really not sure what is going on with your ring. In terms of what is fair to ask, I am not sure what the going rates are for the bands now but back then I think I paid between $1500-$2000.

Have you tried on other pave bands? Or specifically other bands made by SK?

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

I'm so sorry you're frustrated with your ring. I feel like at this point you wont be happy with it regardless of whether the snagging issue is solved. I'd return it to the vendor and ask for it to be fixed-to the point of your full satisfaction-for free. And then I'd sell it and purchase a new ring elsewhere. I just feel like your experience has tarnished the ring for you and you'll always feel iffy about it because of all of this. So start fresh.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Oh no! I'm so sorry to hear this! I'm not sure if this will help or not, but I have two micro pave bands, one with fishtail/ vprong from Leon Mege and another with uprong from ERD. I wear both bands daily and neither snag on anything. I fact I am wearing a sweatshirt with a fuzzy lining and I just took both rings off, drug them over the fuzz in an attempt to snag and neither of them do. So I know snag free can be made. ;)

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Thanks for testing your rings ladies! My ring size is 4.25.
I even went to Tiffany today and tried things like the metro and some of their pave erings just to see if snagging would occur. Nothing at all. Smooth as can be.
Some of you asked when it occurs. It occurs even if i cross my arms or make any kind of contact with any material. I guess it is hard to describe when my hands would come in contact with any sort of fabric in the least.I took a video of it across my pants and lets just say it clearly shows how bad it is. No idea why, but the amt I have spent on this ring may surprise you. I am trying to be polite in not saying at this time. It is not as simple as 1500$, I will say that.
I appreciate you guys giving me suggestions and trying your own bands to see :)
Anyway, i hope he can change it for me so that it does not do this. That is all I want.
The rings i tried today, i noticed, seemed to be fishtail i think? Whatever the metro is.

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

I was actually in T&CO today and was thinking about your thread so I compared the pave. The metros were nice and were not snagging and I compared it to my SK wedding band (I don't wear my LM one). Couldn't tell any difference in ridges.

Since SK guaranteed you that it will not snag, you should ask for a refund and give him back the ring. I am curious though ... since he remade it for a fee ... was he able to actually identify a problem with the first ring on why it was snagging? I am asking because if he thought there wasn't an issue with the first one ... why would he remake it totally?

Beyond snagging ... did you have any other issues like lost melee or anything like that?

I would consider bead set for your next ring - should be no snagging at all. Or perhaps a larger 5 stone or 7 stone prong set band? I think that would look fantastic stand alone.

That's such a great idea!

Re: What do you do when you can not wear ring you have paid

Ok so update:

SK has offered to remake it for free in my choice of pave, but since I continue to have these issues I must decide what to remake it to. He will not advise because he thinks there is nothing wrong with it. He did see the video and said on certain fabrics it will do that, but as I said I tested the Tiffany styles on exact same fabric at exact same time to have a fair comparison.
The safest would be brightcut/bead set, but I really do not love that style at all.
I sent a bunch of the tiffany pics, because it looks like fishtail, but he originally told me this would snag more.
But nobody else is having these issues! Argh! I am wondering if the "less metal look" is what the issue is.....
Anyway, he is being accommodating by agreeing to redo it, I just need to decide what style, then it will be my tough luck if there sre issues after and I think that is fair.
The tiffany metro pic is the one I sent him Charmypoo. Hoping he can do that.
Oops forgot to answer this: nope no other issues whatsoever, other than snagging. :)
