What do you collect other than jewelry?

*cough* kittens *cough*

Also perfumes; antique/vintage books on etiquette, entertaining, and English grammar; and, lately, Birkenstocks.

Boy, I sound like a regular barrel of monkeys, don't I? :lol-2:

So can I have a whinge.
I used to love browsing Antique stores, here in Sydney we even had like Malls where 50 or more small stall holders would have cabinets of goodies in the one building. It was such an enjoyable way to spend a rainy afternoon. There was South Dowling Street, a couple along Parramatta road near Camperdown, a few nice ones in the Eastern Suburbs and even two in Mosman.
Sadly, all gone.
Dont young people like or appreciate antiques anymore?

a lot of them like minimiliastic dacor
they only see clutter and dust collectors and old stuff
they buy stuff from Akea (Or much worse) and no not know to appreate quality or that quality lasts
or that in past generations, one saved up to buy something nice

but think about how nice it feels in your mouth when you eat or drink off fine china, nice cutlery or drink from a nice crystal glass
they dont care

you can buy a nice English fine bone china from $5 off trade me
im just glad we have lovelly ladies like @mellowyellowgirl in our mists

it just makes me so sad thinking about them flogging off all (great) nanna's nice stuff dear old Nan kept for good,
if i could go back in time id tell all the nannas to just use it and enjoy it, but that's not how that generation was brought up

most of my royal cups and saucers have never been used, just kept as souveners i guess

i just brought this 8" piece of genuine Spanish Llardro for $20

1903158604.jpg

i used to buy quite a bit of llardro 20 years ago, although not sure about this piece but i was buying pieces that cost hundrads of dollars
i used to buy it from the jewlers, she would give me the catalgue to take home

Cool fish, I have a couple carved out of gems that I bought in Japan, however they are in boxes, nowhere to display them really.

oh go out and buy a china cabinet
you can get really nice ones for quite cheap because why would people want to keep a china cabinet once they get rid of everything inside it ?
they come in all different sizes, im sure you could find something suitable

anyway put it in your spair room
how often do you have guess stay ?
your spair room is your room the rest of the time

thats why i have my collection in our spair room
i mean its not uncommon to put a bookcase in our spair rooms so why not a display cabinet? :lol-2:
i can sit on the end of the bed and admire it ...and its not in Gary's way

Ooh! Love the Lladro!
I only have a little goose that I found at an estate sale.
I'd love to have a figurine like yours! With kitties! OMG

Another addition to my fake food ensemble... a vanilla bean, strawberry, and pistachio triple scooper. lol If crafting weren't such a great form of therapy, I'd be realllllly embarrassed that this is how I spent my Thursday night.

So yummy!
Do you make Sculpey jewelry?
(I bet you do!)

thank you
i have a couple of really tall pieces, they dont fit the china cabinet (not the royal one in the spair room) so they are still in their boxes in moving boxes in the garage including my 21st present from mum and dad
(i got really great 21st presents- my dad was sick with terminal cancer so we had a really big party with all mum and dad's friends)
im trying to work out how big 8" is (20cm) -im pretty sure she will fit in the lounge

remember they used to have lots of Llardro and Swarovski at duty free ?

i feels sorry for your goose coming from an estate sale and none of the family wanted him
but happy that he found you

i have this wee cutie (full retail from the jewler many years ago)

its on US ebay for US$88
even taking into account the low kiwi dollar this stuff depreciates :(2

lol I've definitely thought about it! So far it's only been food and a couple of figures. I like to collect Hallmark-type ornaments from my favorite animated xmas movies. But no one ever made any for 'Twas the Night Before Christmas (you know the version with the mouse clockmaker and his misanthropic son? lol). Anyway, I made Albert and Father Mouse. I can't with myself, stracci.

I used to collect Bass guitars sort of, played them as well so they weren't case-queens by any means. The most I've owned at any one time was 14 basses.

After cutting off my left index finger and having it reattached in 2020 I downsized my Bass guitar collection as I couldn't play without pain and discomfort for more than 15 minutes. I've currently got only 2, my newish 5 string Ibanez that I got last year and 'the other wife'; my 4 string Warwick Corvette that I bought 17 years ago. I've got a P Bass copy as well but it's in pieces, really gotta get that thing done.

I used to collect Marlin lures as well, some older Joe Yees and other makes. I think at one point I had something like 200 of them when I can only use 5 at any one time :saint:

Skin care products. I've been using the same line for over 25 years and have a large arsenal of the products I use. Last time I got on the scale I weighed myself and then weighed myself holding my bag of loot--it weighed approx. 7 pounds.

Oh, do tell! What products can’t you live without?

I use ISOMERS SKINCARE religiously. They are based in Canada and offer different products depending on your issues (shameful secret:I initially found them on a shopping channel but they are the BEST). I have a basic routine--Double Duty Cleanser, Glutathiosome Serum after cleansing, Fast Lift Eye serum and Dream Cream moisturizer. Twice a week I usetheir Copper Mask. I also have a lot of their products I have tried along the way, but I stick to the basics and have been extremely satisfied with the company as a whole.

They are really customer friendly and are always happy to answer and questions/concerns I've had over the years.
I
I SWEAR I AM NOT A SHILL, just an extremely satisfied customer.

I'd like a piece of this action. Let me get this straight: all I have to do is get seven friends to sign up...

No, no no no. Not at all. I have no skin in this game.at all (no pun intended)
I also kinda resent the implication that I am some dumb market person out to make a buck. I can assure you I am NOT.

No, I'm just kidding! I'm a little brother and always will be. Or so my sibs tell me.

you don't wanna know what my sibs call me.....!

I came back to Prcescope for two reasons--I have some vintage jewelry I wan to post in that thread and I bought a lab diamond after reading about them.

I used to collect mid-century pottery such as Hall, Lu-Ray Pastels, Russel Wright. I've gotten rid of most of it and boxed the Lu-Ray all up (my daughter won't let me get rid of this stuff). Here is what I have left of the Hall. I kept mainly the red and cobalt of a particular pattern, but there are other cobalt pieces in there and a few that are not blue on the bottom shelf of the last pic.

Yummy! I love vintage art pottery.

i collected carlton wear briefly
i have rather a lot
i always liked this one tomato cabbage leaf dish that was grandma's
mum obvesouly didnt like it because it was one of the few things she sold when she downsized and moved to Christchurch
i loved that dish - mum never used it, not even for good -a sure sign she didnt like it
Gary hates them
i wanted to do hang them in a big sweeping pattern over the hall doorway but he wont let me have a single piece out

one day when i get my she-shed i surpose they will go in there
another collection that is fast deprecating
i would really like to use some of the pieces because when they were new im sure they were brought to be used not to keep for good
im sure i remember grandma using the salad bowl

this is kind of what i wanted to do -but with the carlton wear
also our house is the perfect vintage for carltonwear in this style of 3D veges and flowers

Beautiful! I love the pattern on the cobalt.

I haven’t been buying any new ones for a while but these are my Starbucks mugs

Those are terrific, thanks for sharing! I especially like the two metallic ones in the back which I've never seen before.

Other than my Starbucks mugs I’m fascinated with sharks. Here is a meg tooth I bought from a Georgia diver. It’s actually two teeth beautifully constructed together. If it was whole It would be very expensive. More than I’d be willing to pay. D4DA4658-5362-4C8A-8F2E-9621387604C8.png

Megalodon teeth are very cool!
