Hi ALl!

I have a asscher sunstone cut by the wonderful Peter T! I'm having it bezel set for a pendant- but can't decide what color gold to use. What would you do? Here is the vendor photo of the stone which is actually very true to color!

Yellow to bring out the pinkish/orangish hue? Also do ask your jeweller if he/she is willing to bezel set it. My local jeweller advised me against bezel setting my garnets and she’s very skilled in setting gemstones. Since a sunstone is less durable, I’m not sure if it is advisable to bezel set it. On the other hand, my other jeweller (now too far for me to go to) was very confident in bezel setting a softer stone such as peridot.

18k yellow gold.

Yes, high karat yellow gold.

Yellow or possibly rose/pink gold, depending on the tone of the rose gold. Yellow is probably the safest bet.

Here's one of my sunstones sitting in a yg setting. It didn't get set in this setting because it was really too big for it but I loved how it looked.

18k red or yellow gold. its going to need a lot of "protection".....more than prongs will provide.

I love the idea of setting it in rose gold to bring out the pinkish tones...

PS
Kismet - GREAT sunstone! LOVE the color.

Rose gold, and use an alloy that is a bit more pink than usual, but not bordering on copper tone. There is a lot of variance in color with rose gold.

Yellow.

I'm debating between 18k rose gold and and 22k or 24k yellow gold. Last night I put the gemstone against a very pinky/rose gold earring that I have and loved it. But when did the same against 18k yellow gold I thought the stone looked a lot more yellow then I would have liked. Argh I hate making these decisions. I can never invision what I want things to look like- I"m horrible with custom projects. I need to see it first!!!

Thanks Chrono! I have posted a few times that I use a jeweler out of Hong Kong- he has amazing pricing and for the most part does very good work...as long as the designs are simple. I wouldn't have him do anything that was more "artistic" though. He has set several soft stones for me this year and so far so good. Hopefully the sunstone won't be an issue. ;))

I have a match to that stone that I recently set into a white gold halo setting that I bought at my local mall with an amethyst.

Sorry don't have a picture right now...on travel and don't have my camera with me.

Once set, it darkened a bit and the color fills the stone now rather than giving a spot of color in the middle.

18k rose gold-peachy rather than pink. Great stone! I love sunstone.

Exactly!

I'm in the rose gold camp. Beautiful stone!

I like the sunny combo of orange and yg :lickout: How about a 6 prongs for more protection?

I would put it in rose gold.

UDPATE!!!!!!!

And the pendant is done. I'm super happy with how it came out. I wanted the bezel to be slightly thicker but in general I'm pretty happy with it!

Sorry for the crapastic photos. I love my jeweler but his photos skills aren't that fabulous....but I shouldn't complain because mine are worse!

rose would be my first choice and yellow my second.

Thanks Kelpie!! But the pendant is done- see the pictures in my post above!

I loved that stone, and that is just the kind of setting I would have envisioned for it!
Sigh...... It's so very very lovely!!!!

Gorgeous....much better than mine turned out, actually!

Are you kidding? I wouldn’t want the bezel any thicker because that’s perfection right there. I love the design!

Very pretty! That came out fab. I love the bale-less (or is it bail-less?) design.

Oh, that turned out just beautifully! It shows off the stone perfectly. :appl:

It's gorgeous   You're so lucky to have an awesome jeweler nearby!

Can't wait to see your own pics and some neck shots!

Very unusual! Profile shots resemble a pagoda, very, very interesting design.
