Hello all you "Brilliant" People!

I am looking for a rock for that special someone - 2.0+, square cushion, H and SI1.

I came across these two on James Allen and I was hoping to get your expert thoughts/feedback! They are both the same price! Is there one that you prefer? Which one do you think has a better cut based on the 360 video?

2.01 H, SI1

2.11 H, SI1

Thanks so much!

Ha ha "Brilliant" people...funny  .

Ok, so the first one has the better cut but it may not be eye-clean.
You need to call JA and ask. You can also request an aset image.
Hopefully they can get one.

The cut on the second one is not good.

sorry i should have given a reason why i suggested a J- it's going to be really hard for you to find a nice 2 carat in the H SI1 range at that price point. The first one you picked may be "sort of" eye clean but it is a pretty big, dark inclusion right in the center. Is the special someone very sensitive to this sort of thing? Also make sure you are looking at the measurements and not just the carat, you can find cushions that are 1.75 ct that face up the same as some 2 carats..

Thanks so much for the suggestions! That J stone is absolutely beautiful!

I am hoping for at least an H. I hear what you're saying about the inclusion, but those images are magnified so maybe it it will not be visible to the naked eye. I'll definitely ask the JA gemologist.

I guess what I'm struggling with is how to assess the cut of these cushion diamonds based on the pictures. Do you think the cut is better in the first or second one?

And what about this third picture below? (SI1, H)

Love this one that Gypsy posted. Great facet pattern and clean!

second choice

I'm going to agree with you that H color (or G) would be my preference in a modern cushion. But if you need to go to I color, I like this one:

One of my best friends has a J modern cushion and it's beautiful. But it's a little over a carat. At two carats, I'd try to stay above I if possible.

And I really think that a 1.9 carat stone is going to be a smart value for you.

Yah. Unfortunately the boss is set on 2.0+.

Do you think that the cut on the first and third stone that I posted are good - any concerns?

In my minimal experience if number one is eye clean then I think it would be a really good buy - right?

Neither of them are well cut. I wouldn't be able to give either of them a score beyond a C.

Drop to I color.

Ok. Thank you.

How did you know that? Why is number 3 not well cut?

Thanks so much for your help!

The first one sold! Argh. I honestly felt like it was a good cut!

Sorry, but it's really lacking in the cut department. Your second choice will not be eye clean (black inclusion smack dab in the middle of the stone does not bode well).

Which one is lacking in the cut department? The first one or the third one?

What do you think of the cut in the third stone?

Thanks so much for your help...sorry if I'm annoying.

The first one is lacking in the cut department, so it's not a loss that it got away. Do you have a clearer / sharper image of the third cushion?

Ok. Thank for the reassurance - it is greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, I don't have a clearer image. Any thoughts based on what you can see?

The problem is that the picture quality is so poor, I cannot even start to guess at what I am seeing.

Yup. That's why I can't give it a highher score. Chrono summed it all up for me.

Drip to I color, seriously.

Ok. Thanks for the replies guys! I appreciate it.

So that third diamond has poor picture quality and the cut is thus indeterminate. I will definitely consider an I - but I'd rather pay more for a better colour. I think it's more worth it.

How do you guys recommend determining cut with a cushion cut diamond? Especially, when all you get is a picture. It's so damn hard!

The answer to that question is long. :read:
Here is what you need to know about cushions:

Read this:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/new-and-looking-for-help-choosing-cushion-cut-diamond-to-oz.205195/

Then this:
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/help-need-opinions-about-this-cushion-cut-diamond-pics.206771/#post-3763444#p3763444

Here's some information to start you off:
The entire purpose of faceting a diamond is to reflect light.
How well or how poorly a diamond does this determines how beautiful it is.
How well a diamond performs is determined by the angles and cutting. This is why we say cut is king. With fancies though (anything other than a round brilliant), that is a little complicated. But no other factor: not color, not clarity has as much of an impact on the appearance of a diamond as its cut.

There really is no other way to determine if you have a good cushions is to see images of the stones, and then you need is a way to check actual light performance of your actual stone.

That's what an ASET image does. http://www.highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=education-performance Please read.
And ASET shows you how and wear your diamond is reflecting light, how well it is going at it, and where you are losing light return That is why you won't see us recommending vendors like Blue Nile, as they do not provide images or ASET images for their diamonds. James Allen and Good Old Gold do this. So do Brian Gavin and Whiteflash and High Performance Diamonds.

Or you can get an AGS0 cushions, but those are rare, and usually branded. . GIA does not grade their cushions for performance. Only AGS does. And any lab other than GIA or AGS is not worth considering at all.

Thank you so much for your help! Looks like I have some reading to do!

I will probably post more questions as I think of them!

Thanks again for your help!

That's a winner. Ignore the vendor score.

Thanks. Like how would you grade the cut? A+? I worry about the "I" colour.

Do you think I could combine it with a setting from blue Nile and have a jeweller combine the two?
