Hi,

Tekate-- DT often does this--very often. He says ,"everyone says", "many people have told me"., ect. .Don't ask him to back it up. To be fair, we do hear things among our families and friends and form opinions from the stories that others tell us. We don't have to back all things that we say or think with a litany of facts.

Hi Callie,

I hope you are staying well too. I know you are in my neck of the woods, so I'll tell you that my nurse who works for Central Dupage hOSPITAL--aka Northwestern-- says that the hospital is doing quite well. They have CV19 patients who are isolated on a separate floor. If the Docs suspect the virus, they test and put the person in a negative pressure room, which I earned is an isolation room with specialized air controls or filters. If they are negative on the test they go home, but if positive they have already been isolated. They are not overwhelmed.

The hospital instituted safe guards. In the lobby you must wear a mask before you are allowed in. At the next point they take your temperature. She said she was scared at first, but is more relaxed now. She won't come to see me, which is fine by me.

I called my pharmacy to refill my scripts, and found they have disposable gloves. I had some, along with surgical masks from Sars, plus my nurse gave me some, so I am set with my supplies.
Are you able to get gloves? I thought it would be a scarce item.

Just my update here. Walmart is rationing items. I put them in my shopping cart and they disappear almost right away. I feel as if I'm bidding on E-bay.

Best to your husband, that nice fellow who just doesnt want you to trade him in.--A new setting is Ok, but new husband , no no. I like him for saying that to you.

Easy, just ask your employer. I know many waiters/ waitress ask their employer to lay them off so they can collect unemployment since restaurants can only take to go orders now. They don't receive much tips for to go orders. Unemployment benefits will net more $$$ per month than working.

The company I work for is union. Many of our union employees have worked for our company for 20+ years and are proud to do their jobs.

Because I sure didn’t say like that about people in those situations who now have to figure out if they’re better of working or laid off. People who have been suddenly thrown into homeschooling or with a closed daycare. People actually terrified that going to work may put themselves or a loved one at risk. I in no way even suggested anything like them being wretched and lazy, you did.
I only said all the rules have all changed. These are real situations people are facing and how they are trying to deal with them. And yes the unemployment offices all over the county are taking these questions because it’s the same everywhere.

NEW YORK (AP) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that China is facilitating the shipment of 1,000 ventilators to his state, as he continues to shop for more of the lifesaving devices ahead of a growing number of coronavirus patients who are expected to need them.

The number of people infected in the U.S. has exceeded a quarter-million, with the death toll climbing past 7,000; more than 3,500 of those deaths are in New York state. Cuomo said the ventilators from China were expected to arrive Saturday.

“This is a big deal and it's going to make a significant difference for us,” Cuomo said, adding that the state of Oregon volunteered to send 140 ventilators to New York. Cuomo has also is also looking for ventilators closer to home, and has issued an order that forces even private hospitals in the state to redistribute ventilators to the hospitals most in need.

I don't know. I don't believe a word Trump says. According to Trump all the doctors and nurses and hospitals have everything they need. IIRC he used the word terrific and tremendous a lot.

And now I understand Kushner said the nation's stockpile of PPEs etc are not for the states. Huh?
Paid by the taxpayers but not for the taxpayers to save their lives?

Someone please wake me up from this never ending nightmare. Please.

Aww. The prime minister of Ireland was a doctor prior to politics and just registered to volunteer back in physician duties once a week. Sounds like he’ll mostly be helping with phone triaging patients, which sounds appropriate if you haven’t practiced since 2013 and is still super helpful as it prevents people from coming to the Emergency rooms unnecessarily. Haha imagine having a worrisome cough, calling the hotline, and getting the prime minister!

He’s also quoted as saying he couldn’t see himself greeting dignitaries in one. I can find you the source if you like.

Anyways, in my opinion his negative test result is besides the point and not a reason not to wear a mask. As a leader you should model good behavior, and wearing a mask right now is a symbol of civic duty and care for your fellow man. Wear the mask.

Also saw this comment today in response to the naval officer removed due to sending out emails about covid on his ship. I honestly believe that if trump had had the power to “cover up” covid numbers and deaths in the US he would have. Luckily we have free media so yay for that.

I don’t agree with the last line. Or rather I think it’s more accurate to say I think the differences between the behaviors of the leaders of the countries are increasingly small.

I'm not sure if it's all of Australia but Victoria is going to put health care workers into hotels for free should they decide that they need a place to self isolate so they don't put their families at risk.

Also the recommendation is to wear a mask when you’re out in public. He’s not going out in public, everyone who comes near him is being tested so theres no real point to him wearing one. Not only that, lots of regular folks can’t get masks...it’s a bad visual.

The behavioral elements should not be left unaddressed though. When you grow up and that’s all you know, it’s hard to get out of it and let go. Most kids don’t succeed which is why having role models/encouragement outside of that environment is so important. Otherwise kids grow up never even understanding they can have something different. There are people in every income level who perpetuate dysfunctional habits and lifestyle choices....it isn’t only an affliction of the poor. We probably all know people like that.
I had some influential people in my life and as I got older I did understand I didn’t have to repeat my own upbringing. I’m luckier than most. Most of the people I think of now were not doing anything remarkable/intentional to influence me but I was watching, paying attention. When you have a chance to be a positive influence for a kid please do so...you might never know how badly they need it.

I'm TOTALLY fine with him not wearing one. Or taking any other precautions either. Frankly I think he should pay a personal prolonged visit to the most besieged medial facility there is. Just sayin'...

Thank you for the update on the hospital. It’s good to know CDH is handling is taking measures to keep everyone safe. It’s also a relief to know they aren’t overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients at the moment. I’m hoping the measures our governor put in place help slow the curve.

I think of you and @Tekate offen as I watch Trump‘s daily briefing. The misinformation being spoken and the inconsistencies in the messaging is dangerous. I can’t believe people still support him.
